The San Francisco Giants are suspending payments to outfielder Harrison Bader amid an investigation into his scooter accident, president of baseball operations Buster Posey announced Friday.
"Over the weekend, Harrison Bader was involved in an accident that has delayed Harrison's prior treatment timeline for plantar fasciitis and, unfortunately, his return to the field," Posey said in a statement. "We are still investigating the circumstances of the accident, but will be suspending payment to Harrison until he is able to resume performing services for the club."
Bader was involved in the incident in San Francisco around 2 a.m. Sunday, according to Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Authorities said the 32-year-old was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries following a collision with another vehicle, per Rubin.
Bader injured the same foot that had sidelined him since late May with plantar fasciitis. The Giants said Thursday that he'll miss the remainder of the season.
Bader signed a two-year, $20.5-million contract in the offseason. He's slated to lose roughly $1.5 million in 2026 and is owed $10 million next year. However, there are long-term concerns about his injured foot, sources told Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area.
The MLBPA could fight the Giants' decision, but Bader will likely have a hard time winning his case, as some within the organization believe more information will come out, including a potential video, according to Pavlovic.
Bader also got into a scooter accident while at the University of Florida in 2014, which resulted in the school suspending him.
Bader hit .170/.198/.358 with five home runs and 14 RBIs in 30 games this season.
