<p>The Texas Rangers and right-hander <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///wbc/players/760" href="/wbc/players/760">Johnny Cueto</a> agreed to a minor-league contract, the club announced Tuesday. </p><p>Cueto is expected to report to the team's complex in Surprise, Arizona.</p><p>The veteran hurler last pitched for the Miami Marlins in 2023, posting a 6.02 ERA with 1.26 WHIP and 6.7 K/9 over 52 1/3 innings (10 starts).</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>However, the 38-year-old had a strong 2022 campaign with the Chicago White Sox, authoring a 3.35 ERA over 158 1/3 innings (24 starts).</p><p>Cueto has also pitched for the Cincinnati Reds, Kansas City Royals, and San Francisco Giants over his 16-year career. The two-time All-Star won a title with the Royals in 2015.</p>

I don't want to eject a ballplayer. We need to keep them in the game," Wendelstedt <a href="https://twitter.com/BryanHoch/status/1782514687621390389">said</a>. "That's what the fans pay to see. Aaron Boone runs the Yankees. This isn't my first ejection. In the entirety of my career, I have never ejected a player or a manager for something a fan has said. I heard something come from the far end of the dugout, had nothing to do with his area, but he's the manager of the Yankees. So, he's the one that had to go."</p><p>The 52-year-old veteran ump admitted he hadn't seen a replay when he spoke to a pool reporter postgame.</p><p>"Everything you said is exactly kind of what was communicated on the field," Wendelstedt <a href="https://twitter.com/BryanHoch/status/1782517062570553468">said</a>. "That's what Aaron said. He said that 'a fan said it, a fan said it.' I said, 'I don't care who said it.' ... It's foolish to throw out a player if you don't know who did it. The manager's there, Aaron took the hit and he probably, you know, is not the one who made the comment, but once again, he's the manager of the Yankees and he's responsible for the team."</p><p>This is Boone's second ejection of the season. He was thrown out seven times in 2023 - joint-most in the MLB - and a league-leading nine times in 2022.</p>

<p>Atlanta Braves ace <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/13620" href="https://www.thescore.com/mlb/players/13620">Spencer Strider</a> will miss the rest of the 2024 season after undergoing surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow with an internal brace, the club announced Saturday.</p><p>Strider's procedure was performed by Dr. Keith Meister on Friday.</p><p>Last weekend, Atlanta discovered the right-hander had damage to his UCL after dealing with elbow discomfort and a velocity drop in his second start of the new campaign.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Strider also missed all of the pandemic-shortened 2020 season due to Tommy John surgery in 2019.</p><p>The 25-year-old ends the year with a 7.00 ERA and 12 strikeouts over nine innings. The 2023 All-Star won 20 games with a 2.85 FIP and an MLB-best 13.5 K/9 among qualified starters over 186 2/3 innings last season to finish fourth in NL Cy Young voting.</p><p>Losing Strider is a big blow for the Braves and their World Series aspirations. The team's rotation is now down to <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/4259" href="/mlb/players/4259">Max Fried</a>, <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/1577" href="/mlb/players/1577">Chris Sale</a>, <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/1117" href="/mlb/players/1117">Charlie Morton</a>, and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/5352" href="https://www.thescore.com/mlb/players/5352">Reynaldo López</a>. Sale is 35 and has made a combined 33 starts since 2021 due to injuries, and Morton is pitching in his age-40 campaign. López hasn't been a starter since 2019.</p>
