Report: Ole Miss' Simmons entering transfer portal
Ole Miss quarterback Austin Simmons plans to enter the transfer portal following the Rebels' playoff run, a source told ESPN's Pete Thamel.
Simmons will leave Ole Miss as a graduate transfer and have two seasons of eligibility remaining. Missouri is considered the favorite to land his commitment, Thamel reports.
He began the 2025 season as the Rebels' starting quarterback, leading the team to wins over Georgia State and Kentucky before an ankle injury sidelined him for multiple games.
With Simmons out, transfer Trinidad Chambliss took over the starting role, guiding Ole Miss to four consecutive wins. Chambliss' strong performance resulted in Simmons being demoted to backup when he returned.
Simmons also received limited reps as the backup to Jaxson Dart in 2024. He began his career as a two-sport star at Ole Miss, playing baseball.
Missouri is looking to provide competition at quarterback following Beau Pribula's departure. Matt Zollers will return to the Tigers, having stepped up amid injuries this past season.
Simmons passed for 744 yards, four touchdowns, five interceptions, with a 60% completion rate in 2025 for Ole Miss.
The Rebels take on Miami in the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 8 after their 39-34 victory over Georgia in the Sugar Bowl on Thursday.
