Alonso hits 300th career HR vs. Mets at Citi Field

Baltimore Orioles slugger Pete Alonso gave his old friends in Flushing one more thrilling moment when he hit his 300th career home run Tuesday against the New York Mets at Citi Field.

Alonso, who spent seven seasons with the Mets before leaving in free agency last winter, reached the milestone with a game-tying blast in the top of the ninth inning. He punctuated the moment with an epic bat toss.

Despite the circumstances, he still received a curtain call from the Mets faithful.

"I appreciate all the support, especially for all the years I'm here, all the life I've lived here," Alonso said of the curtain call, per SNY. "Obviously they're recognizing that, and they appreciate that. It's a two-way street. I really appreciate it."

Alonso's 300 round-trippers are the third most by any player in his first eight big-league seasons, trailing Albert Pujols (319) and Hall of Famer Ralph Kiner (329), according to Sarah Langs of MLB.com.

The three Mets fans who caught the milestone homer returned the ball to Alonso in exchange for signed bats and baseballs. Alonso then shocked the trio by offering them free tickets to a future game at Camden Yards.

Alonso turned into one of baseball's premier sluggers at Citi Field, with his first 264 homers coming in Mets blue and orange. He became the team's all-time home-run leader last season.

The 31-year-old signed a five-year, $155-million deal with the Orioles after New York decided not to extend an offer to him. He's continued to rake in Baltimore, slashing .267/.362/.499 with 36 homers and 101 RBIs over 152 games this season.

Alonso's homer sparked the Orioles, who went on to beat the Mets 7-5 in 11 innings thanks to Coby Mayo smacking a three-run inside-the-park homer.

"Obviously super happy about the individual stuff and No. 300. It's a nice round number, but I’m just so proud of this group," Alonso said, per Matt Weyrich of the Baltimore Sun. "The way we fought today, it’s an unbelievable team win."
