<p>San Diego Padres starter <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/8297" href="/mlb/players/8297">Nick Pivetta</a> will miss an undetermined amount of time due to a right flexor strain, manager Craig Stammen announced Wednesday.</p><p>Stammen did note that Pivetta doesn't immediately need surgery. The team is "discussing" what his rehab process will look like.</p><p>"He's definitely gonna take some time off throwing," the skipper told reporters, per <a href="https://x.com/973TheFanSD/status/2044549734271226250">93.7 The Fan</a>. "Let it rest, let it heal and then get back on the throwing program and strengthening program. It's probably going to be more weeks and maybe months than it is just specific days. ... We feel pretty confident he's gonna get back this year."</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Pivetta was pulled early from Sunday's start against the Colorado Rockies with what the team initially called right elbow stiffness. The Padres placed him on the injured list Tuesday.</p><p>Despite having a high 4.50 ERA, the 33-year-old didn't allow a home run through 16 innings this year before getting hurt. He also owns a 1.28 FIP, 1.12 WHIP, and 24 strikeouts to just six walks across his four outings.</p><p>"Feeling better day by day," Pivetta said Wednesday, according to <a href="https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/2026/04/15/no-timeline-talk-of-surgery-for-padres-pitcher-nick-pivetta-elbow/">Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune</a>. "You know, it's going to take some time. It's going to be a little bit of a process, but we have a good medical staff here trying to do the right things and just trying to get ahead of it."</p><p>Pivetta's flexor strain is the latest blow to a Padres rotation that's been decimated by injuries to start the season. He took the loss in that outing, allowing three runs while striking out five and walking four over six innings.</p><p>Ohtani had better results this time around, as he struck out 10 and allowed just two hits and one earned run while walking two over six innings of work. He left the game with the Dodgers holding a 3-1 lead.</p><p>Ohtani is off to another stellar start in 2026 on both sides of the ball. As a hitter, he's slashing .254/.402/.508 with five homers and 10 RBIs over 82 plate appearances. On the mound, he now owns a 0.50 ERA and 0.72 WHIP with 18 strikeouts across 18 innings.</p><p>Heading into Wednesday's action, the 31-year-old owned both the longest active on-base streak (48 games) as a hitter and the longest active streak without allowing an earned run (28 2/3 innings) as a pitcher, with both runs dating back to last year. Ohtani's pitching streak was snapped at 33 innings when Mets DH MJ Melendez ripped an RBI double in the 5th inning.</p><p>Because he didn't have a plate appearance Wednesday, his on-base streak remains active.</p>

It's not really something where I want to be like, bro, you should have heard what this guy said to me. That's not the most important thing. His 1,284 strikeouts are tied with <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/1378" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/1378">Craig Kimbrel</a> for fourth all time among relievers, and he's MLB's active leader in games pitched.</p><p>The 38-year-old was originally signed out of his native Curaçao by the Dodgers as a catcher in 2004. He spent five seasons in the minors as a backstop before moving to the mound and reaching the majors less than a year after the change. <p>The Toronto Blue Jays signed veteran left-hander <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/2301" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/2301">Patrick Corbin</a> to a one-year, $1-million contract Friday.</p><p>Corbin was immediately optioned to Single-A Dunedin.</p><p>The 36-year-old spent last season with the Texas Rangers. He put up a 4.40 ERA, 4.25 FIP, and 1.36 WHIP along with 131 strikeouts and one complete game over 31 appearances (30 starts). Those statistics were a marked improvement from those recorded in his previous four seasons with the Washington Nationals, as he was consistently among the worst pitchers in baseball.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Despite his struggles, Corbin brings plenty of pedigree to Toronto as a two-time All-Star and a key member of the Nationals' World Series-winning staff in 2019. He's also a workhorse, averaging over 157 innings a season during his 13-year career. Excluding the shortened 2020 campaign, he's made at least 30 starts every year since 2017.</p><p>Once he's built up, Corbin will provide some much-needed depth for a Blue Jays rotation that's been hit hard by injuries of late. <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/4769" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/4769">José Berríos</a>, <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/9542" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/9542">Shane Bieber</a>, and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/20109" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/20109">Trey Yesavage</a> all started their seasons on the injured list with either elbow or shoulder injuries, while <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/12435" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/12435">Bowden Francis</a> underwent Tommy John surgery in February.</p><p>Toronto's need for pitching depth became even more urgent after <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/8204" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/8204">Cody Ponce</a> sprained his ACL on Monday, an injury that's put his season in jeopardy.</p><p>In addition to Corbin joining their battered rotation at some point, the Blue Jays may also get Yesavage back soon. Stubbs</a>, who played one game with the Washington Nationals last year, in Triple-A.</p><p>Kirk has been one of baseball's most durable catchers during his seven-year career, having been placed on the injured list just three times since debuting in 2020.</p><p>The 27-year-old owns a .577 OPS with one homer and two RBIs through his first five games of 2026.</p>

He also scored four runs and added four RBIs.</p><p>The red-hot start to 2026 follows what was a turbulent offseason for Wiemer, who was designated for assignment twice before being claimed off waivers by Washington in January. He spent the majority of last season in Triple-A and played just 27 big-league games in 2025 with the Miami Marlins.</p><p>Although his record-tying streak is now over, the 27-year-old is still hitting a cool .889/.909/1.778 through 11 PAs this year.</p>
