Braves demote All-Star Elder to Triple-A

The Atlanta Braves optioned right-hander Bryce Elder to Triple-A, the club announced Monday.

Elder posted an 8.25 ERA with 1.75 WHIP over 12 innings this spring. He lost his job in the rotation to newcomer Reynaldo López, who has a 2.16 ERA with 13 strikeouts across 16 2/3 innings.

The 24-year-old Elder was an All-Star last season, authoring a 3.81 ERA with 1.28 WHIP and 128 strikeouts over 174 2/3 innings (31 starts) for the NL East-winning Braves.

Atlanta also optioned right-hander Huascar Ynoa.
