The New Jersey Devils have tendered an offer sheet to Utah Mammoth restricted free-agent center Barrett Hayton, the team announced Wednesday.
The offer sheet is a one-year deal worth $4.775 million. The Mammoth would receive the Devils' 2027 second-round pick if they decide not to match within seven days.
Utah has enough cap space to match the offer sheet. However, the Mammoth wouldn't be able to trade Hayton for a year, and the one-year deal would walk him straight into unrestricted free agency next summer.
Hayton, a 26-year-old center, tallied 10 goals and 25 points in 67 games last season. He set career highs of 20 goals and 46 points the year prior.
The Mammoth improved their center depth with the addition of Vincent Trocheck earlier Wednesday.
The Arizona Coyotes drafted Hayton fifth overall in 2018.
It's the first offer sheet in the NHL since the St. Louis Blues successfully pried Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg from the Edmonton Oilers in 2024.
