Minnesota Wild general manager Bill Guerin is the GM of the Olympic team, with New York Rangers bench boss Mike Sullivan serving as head coach.</p><p>Reigning Calder Trophy winner <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/12709" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/12709">Lane Hutson</a> is among the most notable omissions. Players not invited to the orientation camp can still make the Olympic roster, though.</p><p>The men's hockey tournament runs from Feb. 12-22 in Milan. It'll be the first Winter Games including NHLers since 2014.</p><p>The Americans haven't won a men's Olympic hockey gold medal since 1980.</p>

<p>Sergei Fedorov's No. 91 is heading to the rafters at Little Caesars Arena.</p><p>The Detroit Red Wings will retire his number in a pregame ceremony Jan. 12 against the Carolina Hurricanes.</p><p>"We are honored to celebrate Sergei Fedorov and raise his No. 91 to its rightful place hanging in the rafters at Little Caesars Arena, among the all-time greats who have worn the Winged Wheel," Red Wings governor and CEO Chris Ilitch <a href="https://www.nhl.com/redwings/news/red-wings-to-retire-sergei-fedorov-s-no-91">said</a>. "His exceptional skill, relentless drive, and lasting impact playing a pivotal role bringing three Stanley Cup championships to Detroit make him the perfect embodiment of the qualities deserving of our franchise's most prestigious honor."</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Fedorov spent 13 of his 18 NHL seasons in the Motor City, winning three Stanley Cups (1997-98, 2002), two Selke Trophies (1994, 1996) and a Hart Trophy (1994). </p><p>He ranks fourth in franchise history in goals (400), sixth in points (954), and second in plus/minus (276) in 908 games in a Red Wings uniform. He was part of Detroit's fabled "Russian Five" during the 1990s alongside Igor Larionov, Slava Kozlov, Slava Fetisov, and Vladimir Konstantinov - a prolific five-man unit that changed the perception of Russian players and helped revolutionize the game by valuing puck possession.</p><p>The Red Wings drafted Fedorov in the fourth round in 1989. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2015.</p>

<p>The St. Louis Blues signed forward <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/99" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/99">Milan Lucic</a> to a professional tryout on Tuesday, the team announced.</p><p>The 37-year-old enforcer last played in 2023-24 with the Boston Bruins, registering a pair of assists in four games.</p><p>Lucic took an indefinite leave from the Bruins that season after he was arrested for an alleged domestic incident with his wife. He pled not guilty to assault and battery in November 2023. The charges were dropped in February 2024 after his wife refused to testify.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>He also entered the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program, which he has since completed, resulting in reinstatement by the NHL.</p><p>Lucic has recorded 586 points and 1,301 penalty minutes in 1,177 games across his 17-year NHL career with the Bruins, Kings, Oilers, and Flames. He won a Stanley Cup with Boston in 2011.</p>

"It's not a surprise, it's been anticipated, so I'm excited, determined, and ready to go."</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Bieber posted a 1.86 ERA in seven minor-league rehab starts, fanning 37 batters and walking just three across 29 innings. He threw seven shutout innings in his final rehab start with the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons on Friday.</p><p>The 30-year-old won the AL Cy Young Award during the shortened 2020 season, going 8-1 with a 1.63 ERA. He owns a 3.22 ERA across his seven-year MLB career.</p><p>The Blue Jays acquired Bieber on July 31 in exchange for pitching prospect Khal Stephen. Bieber's contract contains a $16-million player option for next season.</p><p>Toronto's starters for Saturday and Sunday are yet to be determined, Schneider added. The Blue Jays have five additional healthy starters, so it's unclear if someone will be moved to the bullpen or the team will operate with a six-man rotation.</p>

He's owned the ECHL's Florida Everblades since 2019, overseeing three Kelly Cups (2022-24) in that span.</p><p>The sale price is expected to land in the $1.75 billion range if the two sides are able to work out a deal, according to Friedman.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>In January, it was reported that Fenway Sports Group, which also owns the Boston Red Sox and Liverpool FC, was looking to sell a minority stake in the Penguins. However, it now appears that FSG is open to giving up majority ownership of the franchise.</p><p>A group led by Mario Lemieux reportedly expressed interest in buying back the Penguins in June. FSG bought the team from Lemieux's group for $900 million in 2021.</p>

"Coming back to Winnipeg, coming back from not playing for a couple of years, I thought it all made so much sense. I was obviously hoping that we were the front-runner and we're very excited to have him."</p><p>Toews joined the Jets this offseason on a one-year contract worth $2 million, plus an additional $5 million in potential performance bonuses. He's set to make his NHL return after missing two seasons while battling chronic inflammatory response syndrome and symptoms of long COVID.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>It'll be a homecoming for the 37-year-old, who was born and raised in Winnipeg.</p><p>"Obviously he's a legend, not just in the NHL but Winnipeg especially," Scheifele said. I'm very excited to have a guy with his stature and his experience and all the above. I'm really excited to play with him."</p><p>It's unclear how effective Toews will be after two years away from the game, but he has an opportunity to play an impactful role. Captain <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/2147" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/2147">Adam Lowry</a> is expected to miss the start of the season while recovering from hip surgery, leaving Toews and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/2119" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/2119">Vladislav Namestnikov</a> to compete for the No. 2 center job behind Scheifele. Toews said earlier this offseason that his "hands are still there; the feet will catch up."</p><p>Toews recorded 15 goals and 16 assists in 53 games during his last NHL action in 2022-23 with the Chicago Blackhawks. He won three Stanley Cups, a Conn Smythe Trophy, and a Selke Trophy in 15 seasons with the Blackhawks.</p>

He's got a family. We want to get him feeling good for them and then get him back to speed whenever we can."</p><p>Wheeler is one of the NL Cy Young favorites, posting a 2.71 ERA with an MLB-leading 195 strikeouts over 149.2 innings.</p><p>The 35-year-old has never won the award. He finished second in voting in 2024 and 2021.</p>

<p><a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/12709" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/12709">Lane Hutson</a>'s historically great rookie season has earned him high praise from Montreal Canadiens legend and Hockey Hall of Famer Serge Savard.</p><p>"Time will tell, but he's probably the most talented player the Canadiens have had since Guy Lafleur," Savard said Tuesday, per <a href="https://www.nhl.com/news/serge-savard-calls-lane-hutson-most-talented-montreal-canadiens-player-since-guy-lafleur">NHL.com</a>. "Ever since I saw him, from the very beginning, I said he was the Canadiens' best player. I was convinced early on that he would be a big star in the National Hockey League."</p><p>Hutson became the first Canadiens player since goaltender Ken Dryden in 1972 to win the Calder Trophy after recording six goals and 60 assists in 82 games in 2024-25. His 66 points are tied for the fourth-most ever by a rookie defenseman, trailing only Larry Murphy (76), Brian Leetch (71), and Gary Suter (68).</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The 21-year-old also ranked tied for sixth among NHL defenseman in points and tied for second in assists last season. Hutson finished ninth in Norris Trophy voting.</p><p>He helped the Canadiens snap a three-year playoff drought and notched five points in five postseason games.</p><p>Hutson also put up robust numbers during his time with the U.S. National Team Development Program, but he fell to the Canadiens with the No. 62 pick in the 2022 NHL Draft in part because of his 5-foot-9, 162-pound frame.</p><p>"The first thing everyone said about Hutson was that he was so small he was going to get killed," Canadiens icon and Hall of Fame defenseman Larry Robinson said, as quoted by the French-language Journal de Montreal. "It reminds me a lot of what people used to say in Wayne Gretzky's day. They said he wasn't big enough and that he was going to get hurt. Look at what he's done, it's not so bad!"</p><p>Hutson's elite skating and notably exceptional edge work have been key to him overcoming his size. His top skating speed of 23.77 mph ranked in the 99th percentile of skaters last season, per <a href="https://edge.nhl.com/en/skater/8483457">NHL Edge Stats</a>.</p><p>"The things he can do, not many people can do that," Savard said. "Naturally, you're always scared when a 6-foot-4 guy comes from his blind side at 100 miles an hour, but he's so agile and always finds a way to get out of the way. He's not afraid to play when a game is very intense."</p><p>Savard, Robinson, and Lafleur were teammates for five Stanley Cup-winning teams with the Canadiens, first in 1973 and then during the franchise's run from 1976 to 1979. Savard also won three more from 1968-71, while Robinson collected another ring in 1986. Lafleur won three Hart Trophies during his career and is Montreal's all-time leader in points (1,246).</p>

"There are still many more hurdles to clear, and we look forward to working with the NCC and other stakeholders to achieve our shared vision of creating an event centre at LeBreton Flats that can be enjoyed by our Ottawa-Gatineau community."</p><p>The Senators have played home games at the Canadian Tire Centre in rural Kanata - about 27 kilometres (or 18 miles) west of downtown Ottawa - since 1996. However, the franchise has been seeking an arena closer to the downtown core for over a decade, and LeBreton Flats is about two kilometres southwest of Parliament Hill and three kilometres southwest of the ByWard Market.</p><p>"The promise of a major events centre will provide a lively and convenient attraction for residents and visitors, inject new energy and excitement into the core of the Nation's Capital and further catalyze the development of LeBreton Flats," NCC CEO Tobi Nussbaum said. "This agreement builds on the two previous real estate transactions completed by the NCC since 2022 on the Building LeBreton project that will see over 2000 new housing units, along with new retail and commercial spaces built on the site."</p>

His best season came in 2022 when he registered a 2.54 ERA with 194 strikeouts in 148.2 innings. He also helped the Astros win the World Series that year, allowing just one earned run in 12.2 postseason innings.</p>

We're returning largely the same group up front from Canada's winning team at the 4 Nations Face-Off. The only differences are the arrival of Suzuki and Thomas, and the omission of Konecny, who was a healthy scratch in the final. We considered keeping Konecny over Jarvis, but opted for the latter because of his penalty-killing and defensive abilities.</p><p>Suzuki has evolved into one of the game's better two-way centers, putting up 89 points while finishing 13th in Selke Trophy voting. He also has a penchant for stepping up in the clutch, which should help him earn a spot on this team. Thomas, meanwhile, might've been on the 4 Nations squad if it weren't for an early-season injury. Remember, Blues general manager Doug Armstrong is picking Canada's roster, and he knows Thomas' game as well as anyone.</p><p>Both Celebrini and Connor Bedard could play their way onto this team with strong starts to the 2025-26 campaign, but that requires more projecting than we were willing to do at this point - especially given Canada's enviable depth. Celebrini has a legitimate shot. Toews, Makar, Morrissey, and Theodore are guarantees for Canada's roster, assuming they stay healthy, and could even form the entire top four.</p><p>Parayko was a slight surprise at the 4 Nations, but considering Armstrong is at the helm, it would now be a surprise to see the 6-foot-6 blue-liner left off the roster. Harley's evolution over the past two seasons has made him nearly impossible to deny. He was an injury replacement at the 4 Nations, but he still played over 21 minutes in the championship game to rank fourth on Canada in usage.</p><p>The big questions lie in the final two spots. Doughty will be 36 years old when the 2026 Olympics take place. The oldest defenseman on Canada's 2014 roster was then-31-year-old Dan Hamhuis. Doughty logs huge minutes in Los Angeles, but he needs to maintain - or even increase - his level of play early next season to avoid being replaced by a younger option.</p><p>Bouchard is the most polarizing Canadian defender in the game right now. His fans see an elite offensive defenseman who generates positive results and has historic levels of playoff production. His detractors view his errors as too costly for a Canadian team that can choose from an outrageous pool of talent. With two more roster spots available at the Olympics, Bouchard gets the nod as the last defender. That's enough to start the Olympic tournament as Canada's likely No. 1, but a lot can change between the pipes in the next six months.</p><p>Hill also remains from the 4 Nations roster. He's massive at 6-foot-6 and plays behind a similarly huge defense in Vegas. Hill's lackluster playoff run puts his position in jeopardy, and he'll need to impress early next season to maintain his spot on the roster.</p><p>The wild card here is Blackwood. The 28-year-old has seemingly turned the corner after struggles in New Jersey and early in his tenure with San Jose. </script></figure><p><strong>Toughest omissions:</strong> Jason Robertson, Matthew Knies</p><p>Team USA opted for veterans at the bottom of their lineup for the 4 Nations Face-Off. The management group takes a slightly different direction this time around, replacing Chris Kreider and Brock Nelson with World Championship standouts Thompson and Keller and adding Tuch to the mix with the extra roster spot. Trocheck holds his place because he's a right-handed faceoff specialist the coaching staff will covet.</p><p>The gold medal at the Worlds was huge for USA Hockey, and the impact Thompson and Keller had adds significantly to their case for the Olympics. The Americans have a bevy of elite offensive talent and need to lean into that identity. Including Thompson and Keller on the roster - and even giving Connor a bigger role - makes the U.S. that much harder to defend against and gives them insurance in case of injury.</p><p>Robertson remains a significant omission. He was great in the second half of the campaign and finished the playoffs strong, but was quiet for much of the Stars' postseason run (his first goal didn't come until Game 3 of the Western Conference Final). He has to be superb early next season to leapfrog the other bubble players who helped the USA to its first gold at the Worlds in 92 years.</p><p>As for Tuch, he adds size and speed that could be useful on the fourth line. </script></figure><p><strong>Toughest omissions:</strong> Lane Hutson, Noah Hanifin</p><p>It's fair to wonder if the 4 Nations final would've gone any differently if the United States had its two top defensemen - Hughes and McAvoy - in the lineup. McAvoy suffered a season-ending shoulder injury during the round robin, while Hughes didn't suit up in the tournament at all while recovering from injury.</p><p>Behind them, Slavin and Faber showed great chemistry as the team's shutdown pair and should be reunited in Italy. Jones' length and right-handedness will certainly put him on the Americans' radar after a tremendous Cup run with the Florida Panthers. He and Werenski have chemistry dating back to their days together with the Columbus Blue Jackets, too.</p><p>Many will hope for Hutson to make this team after his historic rookie season. But as dynamic and exciting as he is, it's fair to wonder if he'd be able to hold up defensively against Canada's stacked forward group. Oettinger and Swayman are near locks to make the team, too. Swayman holding his spot on the 4 Nations squad despite his poor start last season says a lot about the confidence USA Hockey has in this trio.</p><p>The Americans should be comfortable in net even if injuries strike, though. Their depth between the pipes is unmatched, with Dustin Wolf, Thatcher Demko, Anthony Stolarz, Joseph Woll, Joey Daccord, John Gibson, and Spencer Knight all capable of filling in. <em>- Wegman</em></p>

</script></figure><p>With legitimate firepower up front and a goalie with game-stealing ability in Dostal, Czechia could be a medal contender in Italy. Pastrnak, Zacha, Necas, and Hertl are a legitimate quartet of forwards that Czechia can build its lineup around. Don't sleep on Kulich, either, as he's coming off a strong rookie season.</p><p>Czechia's biggest weakness is the left side of the blue line, which we had to piece together with three non-NHLers in Krejcik, Hajek, and Kempny. That group needs to play greater than the sum of its parts. On the bright side, the majority of this group has experienced winning together, taking home gold at the 2024 World Championship. </script></figure><p>Finland is the defending gold medalist, having beaten Russia in the championship game at the 2022 Olympics. The Finns have a path to another medal with a core of elite two-way players who can make life difficult for the deeper teams in the tournament. The third line with Luostarinen and Lundell can be a difference-maker, just as we saw in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs.</p><p>But the team's biggest piece is Heiskanen. His presence completely overhauls the makeup of the group and puts the more defensive blue-liners into better-suited roles. Finland can also pull from European-based options, making World Championship captain Lehtonen a candidate for depth on the backend. </script></figure><p>If Sweden's going to win its first Olympic gold since 2006, it's going to be on the back of arguably the tournament's best blue line. Dahlin is a legitimate Norris Trophy contender. Veterans Hedman and Karlsson still have game left. Forsling and Brodin are among the league's best shutdown defenders, though there are questions about the latter, as he could miss the start of the 2025-26 season while recovering from offseason surgery.</p><p>While the forward corps may lack a true superstar, its depth can only be matched by Canada and the United States. There are question marks down the middle, though, with Pettersson coming off a down year and Zibanejad being relegated to the wing with the New York Rangers last season. </script></figure><p>Switzerland will again be an upset candidate at the Olympics with a quality offensive core and a legitimately good top four on the back end. Hischier, Meier, and Fiala give the Swiss the kind of firepower they've typically lacked at major tournaments, and don't overlook Suter and the 25 goals he potted with the Canucks last season.</p><p>Josi's health is the biggest factor. If he's on his game, his offensive creativity is a game-changer. Siegenthaler, Bichsel, and Moser are all strong defensive presences who can get the puck up to their talented forwards. The goaltending is weak, but 37-year-old Genoni just won MVP at the Worlds. If he has a little bit of magic left, the Swiss could be a dark-horse threat for a medal. <em>- Cushman</em></p>

The two sides can still negotiate up until the arbitration hearing, which is the last one scheduled across the league.</p><p>Robertson, 23, has been an efficient scorer in a bottom-six role for the Maple Leafs over the last two seasons, but he's failed to carve out consistent playing time. He potted 15 goals and seven assists in 69 games last season, averaging 12 minutes per contest. He tallied 14 goals and 13 assists in 56 games the year before, averaging 11:23 per appearance.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The 5-foot-9 winger was a healthy scratch for 10 of Toronto's 13 playoff games, though he did manage a goal and an assist in his three postseason appearances.</p><p>Robertson requested a trade from the Maple Leafs following the 2023-24 season, but nothing materialized. As an RFA without arbitration rights, he eventually settled for a one-year, $875,000 deal.</p><p>Now with some leverage on his side, Robertson is set for a pay raise. <a href="https://afpanalytics.com/">AFP Analytics</a> projected he'd sign a two-year contract with a $1.5-million cap hit.</p><p>However, it's unclear what kind of role he may have with the Maple Leafs this coming season. Following the loss of <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/4718" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/4718">Mitch Marner</a>, the club added three forwards who figure to be lineup locks in <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/10885" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/10885">Matias Maccelli</a>, <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/10054" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/10054">Dakota Joshua</a>, and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/4714" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/4714">Nicolas Roy</a>. He's amassed 32 goals and 24 assists in 156 career NHL regular-season games across five seasons.</p><p>Robertson is under team control until 2029.</p>
