The Washington Capitals signed former Columbus Blue Jackets captain Boone Jenner to a four-year contract with an average annual value of $5.75 million, the team announced Wednesday.

Jenner produced 13 goals and 38 points in 67 games last season. While he primarily played left wing the last two seasons, he can shift to the middle in a pinch and was arguably the top center option available in free agency.

Jenner spent the first 13 seasons of his career in Columbus and wore the "C" for the past five years.

The 33-year-old owns a career 54% faceoff win percentage. He projects to serve as Washington's third-line center behind Dylan Strome and Pierre-Luc Dubois.

The Capitals are left with under $3.5 million in cap space. Captain Alex Ovechkin is still unsigned and undecided about his future.
