The Miami Dolphins are going to run De'Von Achane until the wheels fall off, according to head coach Jeff Hafley.

"I just gave Achane a heads-up this morning and told him, 'You better be in good shape,' because I told him there might be some games when I have to pick him up and carry him back into the locker room because he's going to be so tired," Hafley told "The Rich Eisen Show" on Monday.

Achane could receive 40-45 touches per game in some cases, Hafley estimated. The first-year coach said the star running back seemed up for the challenge and promised he wouldn't ask to be taken out of games due to his workload.

"I told him, 'I don't ever want to see one of these head taps all year,' and he looked me right in the eye and said, 'You'll never get that head tap from me,'" Hafley recounted.

That planned workload would put the 24-year-old back in rare territory in the modern NFL. No player has touched the ball 45 times in a game since Rudi Johnson in Week 10 of the 2003 season, and no one has hit 40 touches since Derrick Henry in Week 2 of the 2021 campaign.

Achane averaged 19.1 touches per game last season with a career-high 305 touches across 16 contests. He also set personal bests in rushing yards (1,350), yards per carry (5.7), and yards from scrimmage (1,838) in 2025.

"I think Achane is one of the top backs in the league and probably doesn't get as much credit as he deserves," Hafley said.

The Dolphins rewarded Achane with a four-year extension worth up to $68 million in May.
