However, the performances on track – especially in Bahrain – have told a different story.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Piastri was rarely discussed - or seen - as he controlled the pace from lights out to the checkered flag. After a phenomenal pole lap, the Australian led 54 of 57 laps and got home over 15 seconds ahead of the next closest driver.</p><p>Unlike Piastri, Norris struggled all weekend. He qualified sixth – behind an Alpine – and was then handed a time penalty after lining up ahead of his grid box. He worked his way back to a third-place finish, but it wasn't easy: Norris struggled behind Charles Leclerc and then failed to pass George Russell in the closing laps.</p><p>The main difference between Piastri and Norris thus far is clear: composure. The verdict: so far, so good.</p><p>Leclerc qualified third, which later became his first front-row start of 2025 due to Russell's grid penalty. From there, Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, who began ninth, brought Ferrari its best result of the year - both drivers finished in the top five.</p><p>Unlike the rest of the top 10, Ferrari opted for a medium tire start and appeared to be heading for a better result before a safety car in the middle stage of the race. His deficit in the drivers' championship is still only eight points, but it adds more evidence that he's falling further back than climbing up.</p><p>That may be hard to fathom considering Verstappen was atop the podium just last week, but the team's recipe for success has become glaringly obvious. First, the track must be low degradation and emphasize front-tire performance. Next, there must be an outside element, such as rain like Brazil last year or next to impossible overtaking like Japan last Sunday. And the final ingredient: Verstappen must be firing on all cylinders. Unless those all come together, results like those at Bahrain are more likely than not.</p><p>Reports <a href="https://x.com/thomasmaheronf1/status/1911471553994539379">surfaced</a> that suggested Red Bull held a post-race meeting that included team principal Christian Horner, advisor Helmut Marko, and others. If they wanted to discuss a crisis, they were late to react. In a little over a year, Red Bull's dominant advantage has more than been erased. There were DRS issues and a brake-by-wire problem that had the Mercedes driver battling a pedal that was going all the way to the floor in the final laps. Still, he held off a faster Norris to collect his third podium of 2025. The track threw everything it had to rattle Russell, including a grid penalty after qualifying, but the British driver proved unflappable.</p><h3>They said what? 🗣️</h3><p><strong>Zak Brown on Piastri and Norris competing for for drivers' championship: </strong>"They race hard. I'm sure we're going to have some excitement over the year, but they race very cleanly, and they're free to race as we've discussed. I think we've yet to see that epic battle between them - I think that's just a matter of time - but they're pulling the whole team forward, and it's exciting."</p><p><strong>Lando Norris on feeling like he's struggling:</strong> "Honestly, I'm surprised I'm achieving anything at the minute with how I feel in the car. I'm not comfortable, I'm not happy, I'm not feeling good, so getting the results that I'm getting, I'm quite surprised by it. Something's not clicking. I don't have an answer."</p><p><strong>George Russell on the brake-by-wire issue at the end of the race: </strong>"When I was hitting the brakes, the pedal was going all the way to the floor. ... For 10 laps in a row, I didn't know going into every corner if my brake would be solid or if it would be going to the floor. It really compromised the race, but at the end of the day, coming home in P2 is mega."</p><p><strong>Lewis Hamilton on growing pains with Ferrari:</strong> "I've been driving a certain a way with the same team for such a long time, and I've moved to a new car and it requires such different driving style and settings. ... So I'm adjusting to that, and I think I am slowly getting it into my head."</p><h3>What's next?</h3><p>The Saudi Arabian GP goes Sunday, April 20 at 1 p.m. ET. </p><p>Red Bull has claimed three of the four races at the Jeddah Circuit - Verstappen won in 2022 and 2024, and Sergio Perez won in 2023. <p>Eight-time Pro Bowl cornerback <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/20421" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/20421">Patrick Peterson</a> will be retiring with the Arizona Cardinals on Monday, a source told <a href="https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/1910817730137141625">ESPN's Adam Schefter</a>.</p><p>Peterson played the first 10 seasons of his career with the Cardinals, who drafted him fifth overall in the 2011 NFL Draft.</p><p>All eight of the 34-year-old's Pro Bowls occurred during the first eight seasons of his career, and he was named a First-Team All-Pro on three occasions.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>During his 10-year stay with Arizona, Peterson recorded 28 interceptions, two forced fumbles, and 12 fumble recoveries.</p><p>The cornerback also shined as a punt returner during his rookie season as he led the NFL in return yardage (699) and touchdowns (four).</p><p>Peterson enjoyed a two-year tenure with the Minnesota Vikings from 2021-22 and a one-season stop with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2023.</p><p>Peterson ends his NFL journey with 36 interceptions and two pick-6s.</p>

He's also now reportedly scheduled to become a free agent a year earlier in 2026.</p><p>The reworked deal will lower Lazard's 2025 salary-cap figure from $13.2 million to $4.6 million, according to Fitzgerald. The Jets will also reportedly take just under a $4.4-million dead-cap hit in 2026 when his deal becomes void.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Lazard joined New York on a four-year, $44-million deal during free agency in 2023. "It started off quite tough this weekend, but we didn't give up."</p><p>Red Bull's difficult car and its second-driver issues have left it trailing McLaren 111 points to 61 with Verstappen accounting for all the Milton Keynes team's points. However, the Suzuka win, which was Verstappen's record-breaking fourth consecutive triumph at the circuit, leaves him only one point behind Norris in the drivers' championship.</p>

But it was the driver that ultimately made the difference in Suzuka, as Max Verstappen got his first victory of 2025 in front of both papaya drivers.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>It can't be understated how important track position is in modern F1. Clean air is still king. While Verstappen took the chequered flag Sunday, he ultimately won the race Saturday, putting together a pole lap that his own race engineer considered "insane." The numbers suggest the reigning four-time champion had no business being on pole. A McLaren driver had the fastest time in sectors one, two, and three.</p><p>Combining each driver's theoretical best lap by using their best sector times puts Verstappen in third, behind Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. However, when it comes to execution, the numbers mean little. Both McLaren drivers made mistakes on their final Q3 run while Verstappen left no inch of the track unexplored as he nabbed his first pole since June 2024.</p><p>Without that pole, there's little to suggest Verstappen would have won if he needed to overtake a McLaren. With the Dutch driver trading identical lap times with Norris all race, it's likely whoever started ahead would finish first barring an unforeseen mistake.</p><p>And as Verstappen has proved time and time again in his continuing battle against McLaren, he's not going to be the one to slip up.</p><p>The world champion had an answer for every variable as he mastered his way to a record-breaking fourth consecutive victory in Suzuka. It was a fitting thank you to Honda, who celebrated its final home grand prix as Red Bull's engine supplier. More importantly, it was an important statement and confidence boost to Red Bull. While the RB21 may not have the advantage of being the best car, no other team has the advantage of having Verstappen – who is now only one point behind Norris.</p><p><strong>McLaren resists opportunity to go for race win</strong></p><p>McLaren had the car to win. It also had the drivers to win. The team unfortunately didn't have the guts to win.</p><p>The Japanese GP is a race where McLaren should have walked away with a victory. The team's pit wall had opportunities to provide both drivers with tools to overcome Verstappen's brilliance. However, instead of arming them for battle, McLaren opted for a conservative approach.</p><p>The decision to pit Piastri, in third, prior to Norris, in second, was the first self-inflicted wound. To avoid undercutting its own driver, McLaren was forced to pit its championship-leading driver on the next lap, when Verstappen, the race leader, also ducked for a tire swap. The potential for undercutting Verstappen, who was within striking distance, was gone, and it was erased entirely by friendly fire.</p><p>The fact Norris then lost time by ending up on the grass by trying to get ahead of Verstappen on their exit from the pits only made it worse.</p><p>Piastri would get his own taste of the sour papaya medicine that has often left him compromised in the past. Obviously faster than Norris in the late stages of the race but stuck behind him, the Australian believed he had the pace to catch Verstappen, who was only a second up the road from his teammate. But to the disappointment of many, there would be no driver swap or late battle for the win.</p><p>The second decision was perhaps worse than the first. McLaren had nothing to lose by giving Piastri a chance to catch Verstappen. If Piastri failed, swapping positions again with Norris would likely still be on the table.</p><p>McLaren threw away a heap of points and possible wins last season due to poor execution. It seems nothing has changed in 2025. Even in a low-risk situation, McLaren seemingly opted for the hardest path forward, putting additional obstacles in a path that was initially only obstructed by one, lone Dutch driver.</p><p><strong>What a day for the rookie class</strong></p><p>Sunday's race won't fool anyone into thinking it was an all-time classic, but it did serve as a very impressive display for F1's 2025 rookie class.</p><p>Mercedes got a first glimpse at how Kimi Antonelli builds up throughout a weekend as the 18-year-old overcame his initial struggles in free practice to enjoy a record-breaking day. The Italian became the youngest driver in the sport's history to lead a grand prix and record the fastest lap in a race. While the former accolade occurred due to the front-runners pitting, it must be mentioned that Antonelli extended his medium tire opening stint even longer than the likes of tire whisperer Lewis Hamilton, who began on the more durable hard compounds.</p><p>Behind him was Isack Hadjar, who for the second consecutive race weekend, was the fastest driver in qualifying outside of McLaren, Red Bull, Mercedes, or Ferrari. That turned into points Sunday, and Racing Bulls may have found an unlikely but promising lead driver.</p><p>Haas' Ollie Bearman also secured his first Q3 appearance of the season and his second straight points finish. In a weekend that began as Liam Lawson's reintroduction to Racing Bulls, Hadjar stole the show and the headlines. Despite dealing with a painful seatbelt error in qualifying, Hadjar qualified seventh, ahead of Hamilton. He then went on to collect his first points finish of his F1 career. Suzuka was his best performance to date, but the rookie has been lights out since a formation lap crash in the opener.</p><h3>They said what? 🗣️</h3><p><strong>Christian Horner on Red Bull's focus for the season: "</strong>For us, all priorities are on the drivers' championship. The constructors, for sure, is going to be harder. But it's a long year, and you never give up. There's no better tonic or motivator than winning, and we've done that today. Max, without any debate, is the best driver in the world currently."</p><p><strong>Piastri on asking to swap with Norris:</strong> "I just said what I felt. I thought that if I had the opportunity to get in front of Lando then maybe I could go and get Max because my pace felt very strong, and I was able to get into DRS relatively comfortably. ... I thought I would at least ask the question, and that's completely fine with me."</p><p><strong>Andrea Stella on not letting Piastri pass Norris to race Verstappen:</strong> "It takes about eight-tenths of a second to even be in contention to attack the car ahead because you are in the slipstream, and as soon as you get within one second you get a lot of dirty air and your performance drops, so I think it's fair that Oscar makes the comment and gives his input to the (team) but I think today was simply not possible to overtake."</p><p><strong>Lando Norris on what went wrong:</strong> "We lost the race yesterday in qualifying. That's where Max won it and he did a very good job and deserved to win the race today."</p><p><strong>Charles Leclerc on where Ferrari's at:</strong> "I would say it's even more disappointing when you do everything perfect and then you finish P4 and are like two-to-three-tenths off minimum compared to the guys in front every lap."</p><p><strong>Yuki Tsunoda on P12 in Red Bull debut:</strong> "I'm happy with the race in terms of my performance, but in terms of results, it's quite tough, especially for a home grand prix. I was definitely expecting more. I at least wanted to finish in the points, so mixed feelings."</p><h3>What's next?</h3><p>The F1 calendar finally arrives in Sakhir. Head coach Mike McDaniel <a href="https://dolphinswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/dolphins/2025/04/04/terron-armstead-dolphins-retirement-decision-mike-mcdaniel/82872146007/">said</a> earlier this week that he believed the 33-year-old tackle was close to making a decision.</p><p>Armstead enjoyed a 12-year career after the New Orleans Saints drafted him in the third round in 2013. He spent his first nine NFL seasons in New Orleans before joining Miami.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>While Armstead developed into a dependable and high-level tackle, he struggled to avoid injuries. He failed to play a full campaign across his 12 years in the league.</p><p>Armstead's best stretch came from 2018-23, when he earned five Pro Bowl selections over those six years.</p><p>He started 15 games for the Dolphins in 2024, his final NFL season.</p>

<p>Seven-time Pro Bowler and former Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones <a href="https://x.com/The33rdTeamFB/status/1908274758556246491">announced</a> his retirement Friday.</p><p>Jones was one of the most dominant playmakers in the NFL at the peak of his career. The 36-year-old led the league in receiving yards on two occasions with 1,871 yards in 2015 and 1,677 yards in 2018. His 136 receptions in 2015 were also the most of any player that season.</p><p>Drafted sixth overall by the Falcons in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Alabama product set numerous franchise records during his 10-year stay with the team. Jones' 848 receptions and 12,896 receiving yards rank first in the franchise's history.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The wideout also played a huge part in Atlanta's run to Super Bowl LI. He caught 19 passes for 334 receiving yards and three touchdowns across three playoff games during the 2016 postseason. Atlanta's road ended with a defeat to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LI.</p><p>Jones' best contest as a pro came in 2016 when he hit 300 receiving yards against the Carolina Panthers, becoming one of only six players ever to tally 300-plus yards in a game. He's also the only player in NFL history to have three games of 250-plus receiving yards.</p><p>Jones also became the fastest player in NFL history to eclipse 10,000 career receiving yards, needing only 104 games. The previous record was held by former Detroit Lions wideout Calvin Johnson, who needed 115 games.</p><p>Jones last appeared in the NFL in 2023 with the Philadelphia Eagles. After leaving Atlanta following the 2020 campaign, he spent 2021 with the Tennessee Titans and 2022 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. </p><p>He finished his career with 914 catches, 66 touchdowns, and 13,703 yards, good enough for 16th most in NFL history.</p>

Both team drivers have seemingly traded superb weekends, with Lando Norris controlling the season opener in Melbourne and Oscar Piastri putting on a show in China. Maybe F1 should move its goalposts from wanting an exciting season full of parity to hoping McLaren doesn't repeat Red Bull's 2023 dominance because the papaya team will smother any hope of an exciting year.</p><h3>Mercedes</h3><p><strong>Mercedes finally figured out these rules</strong>: For the first time in the ground-effect regulations, Mercedes has a stable car. The days of Mercedes claiming it's back one weekend and then saying it has no idea what went wrong the next week are finally over. McLaren may be the fastest, but the W16 has been the most consistent of the remaining competitors. George Russell will take home at least 20 podiums with a car Mercedes understands.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><h3>Red Bull</h3><p><strong>Red Bull will never win a championship again</strong>: Red Bull pulled the plug on Liam Lawson's disastrous time with the team after only two races. The hits keep piling with the second-seat disasters, poor car development, and the losses of key talent such as Adrian Newey and Rob Marshall in recent years. With the RB21 still a step behind McLaren, Red Bull is officially clinging to the Max Verstappen lifeline. But even now, that's not enough. There's little evidence this former powerhouse can give the reigning drivers' champion the machinery he needs to overcome his rivals. Ferrari is still Ferrari</strong>: It was full steam ahead for Ferrari in the winter break. That's now turned into a train wreck. Vasseur's operation, which had legitimate bright spots, is starting to appear more like predecessor Mattia Binotto's Ferrari: awful strategy calls in crunch time and points given away due to incompetence. Ferrari suffered a double disqualification in China after a strategy debacle in the rainy season opener. Sure, Lewis Hamilton won a sprint race already, but 2025 is shaping up to be remembered more as one of the team's biggest disappointments than for the arrival of an all-time great.</p><h3>Williams</h3><p><strong>Alex Albon is a top-eight driver on the grid</strong>: Remember when most of the buzz around Williams surrounded Carlos Sainz? Well, Albon has quickly extinguished that in convincing fashion. The Thai driver has outpointed his teammate 16-1 and is up 3-0 in qualifying, including sprint sessions. Don't forget that Sainz more than held his own against some quality teammates in the past, such as Norris and Charles Leclerc. So, what does that say about where this current version of Albon ranks among the best drivers? Perhaps that conversation needs to start.</p><h3>Haas</h3><p><strong>Esteban Ocon was the best driver pickup for 2025</strong>: Hamilton? No, there are still swings of extreme highs and lows there. Sainz? He hasn't delivered. Ocon? Sorry, do you mean the leading Ferrari engine driver in the championship? The French pilot failed to score in Australia but picked up a solid 10 points in last week's race. Haas only earned more than 10 points in one of 24 races last season. The Spaniard is the only driver who hasn't finished a race yet this season following a mechanical failure in China and a crash in Australia. What's more concerning is the minuscule gaps between Alonso and teammate Lance Stroll in qualifying. </script></figure><h3>Kick Sauber</h3><p><strong>Nico Hulkenberg will end his podium-less streak</strong>: In his first race with Kick Sauber, Hulkenberg outscored the team's entire 2024 points haul with his seventh-place finish. Next on the horizon is the end of his streak of 229 consecutive race starts - and counting - without a single podium finish. All it'll take is another seventh-place finish, perhaps some rain, and a handful of disqualifications. With the way 2025 is going, that might not be too unrealistic.</p><h3>Racing Bulls</h3><p><strong>Isack Hadjar is the fastest rookie on the grid</strong>: Move over Kimi Antonelli; Hadjar is the rookie with the best raw pace. Sixteen teams opposed the tush push ban, a source told <a href="https://x.com/jjones9/status/1907079137161839079">CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones</a>.</p><p>NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said Tuesday that the league is aware of the potential injury risk despite there being a limited amount of data.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>"I think there are safety issues being considered with the tush push," Goodell <a href="https://x.com/jjones9/status/1907162396554309864">said</a>. "We have very little data, but we see the potential risk. It's a no-brainer. If this is proven to be less safe for the players, we will be against the tush push. But until that's the case, to me, there would be no reason to ban this play."</p><p>The Green Bay Packers <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3225831" href="https://thescore.com/news/3225831">initially</a> submitted the proposal in February, citing player safety issues and competitiveness. The <a href="https://operations.nfl.com/updates/the-rules/2025-rules-change-proposals/">motion</a> would "prohibit an offensive player from pushing a teammate who was lined up directly behind the snapper and receives the snap, immediately at the snap."</p><p>The committee is composed of the league's team owners, and any motion would require 24 of the 32 votes to pass. A source told <a href="https://x.com/schultz_report/status/1907042761884262872?s=46&amp;t=Te6Q7pJGuCjZ9p88DFq6gw">Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz</a> that the language of the proposal was "just not clear enough and can easily be manipulated."</p><p>The tush push involves the ball being snapped to the quarterback, who is then pushed by two players from behind. It's used in short-yardage situations and has recently been popularized by the Philadelphia Eagles. "We should go back to prohibiting the push of the runner. <p>Red Bull has done it again. A team infamously known for its sometimes cruel and often questionable decisions when it comes to the second seat outdid itself Thursday, officially dropping Liam Lawson for Yuki Tsunoda after just two races.</p><h3><strong>Why now? </strong></h3><p>That's a good question. </p><p>In Red Bull's defense, the team may have felt the situation warranted immediate action. The upcoming race in Japan marks the beginning of a triple-header, and making a swap during that time was likely not feasible. If Lawson continued to struggle, Red Bull may have found itself completely out of the constructors' fight by the time the three races were complete. Tsunoda will also be making his Red Bull debut in front of his home fans in Japan, which should be a great moment that alleviates some of the public backlash.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>On the flip side, deciding Lawson's future after two races, at circuits he'd never driven prior, reeks of an impulsive move. Suzuka, the next track, is one that Lawson knows quite well from his junior days. The grand prix after that is Bahrain, another circuit where the Kiwi driver has experience due to preseason testing.</p><h3>Is Red Bull justified in sacking Lawson?</h3><p>Time will tell. </p><p>One aspect is certain - Lawson's struggles were unsustainable. No points and qualifying results of 18th and 20th were not going to cut it, even in a difficult RB21 car, when his teammate was starting on the first or second row.</p><p>But if Red Bull had such little confidence in Lawson's ability to recover from the first two races, then perhaps those in charge shouldn't have promoted him over Tsunoda to begin with. Two weekends shouldn't be enough to change Red Bull's opinion, especially since it proclaimed that Lawson was picked for his potential. For a team that was criticized for letting Sergio Perez overstay his welcome, this feels like a major overreaction. Gasly wasn't recalled despite an impressive few years at AlphaTauri. Alex Albon was demoted to a reserve role in 2021 and went off to Williams after that. Daniil Kvyat lost his seat to Max Verstappen and spent the rest of his F1 career with the junior team.</p><p>If those drivers couldn't find their way back, it's hard to think Lawson will. It's more probable the 23-year-old will be a placeholder until Red Bull's next prospect - 17-year-old Arvid Lindblad - is ready for Formula 1. That could be as soon as 2026.</p><h3>How will Tsunoda perform in the RB21?</h3><p>He'll likely be better than Lawson. But how much better is what matters.</p><p>Tsunoda is fast. That's not up for debate. He outmatched Daniel Ricciardo last season, sent the Australian packing, and then beat his replacement, Lawson, 6-0 in head-to-head qualifying to end 2024.</p><p>Tsunoda should be an upgrade, but when your predecessor is qualifying at the back of the grid, it's hard not to be an improvement. Will it be enough? That's the important question. The RB21 is not an easy car to drive. Even Verstappen said so himself. Tsunoda was qualifying his Racing Bulls car in the top 10. What happens if he fails to put his new stubborn machinery into Q3? Red Bull will have a better driver but still be faced with the reality of fighting with one hand tied behind its back.</p><p>By promoting Tsunoda, Red Bull is treating a symptom rather than the disease while its machinery is unable to be mastered by anyone other than Verstappen.</p><h3>Is Red Bull's second seat cursed? </h3><p>Red Bull has a Red Bull problem, not a second-driver problem.</p><p>How many times can Red Bull have a young driver fall flat on his face before taking a look in the mirror? It wasn't always this way. This was once a place that was lauded for its junior driver development, with Sebastian Vettel, Ricciardo, Carlos Sainz, and Verstappen coming through its ranks. Now it's a buzzsaw that mercilessly claims victim after victim.</p><p>It's no secret that Red Bull's cars have been notoriously tricky. And the trickier the machinery, the more Verstappen is able to flex his ability and put the car in places it may not belong. This begins a cat-and-mouse game of chasing performance as pressure and media attention grows, with Verstappen not missing a beat while the other car is struggling in Q1 or Q2.</p><p>The best solution is likely to acquire a highly rated veteran, such as Sainz, who was available last year. But Red Bull's philosophy of an undisputed No. 1 alongside a wingman who picks up the scraps has stopped this approach from happening since Ricciardo left after 2018.</p><p>Instead, Red Bull keeps putting the wrong - and often inexperienced - candidates inside a difficult car, alongside a generational talent, and in an environment that has a massive spotlight and championship expectations. It's a recipe for failure.</p><p>When it comes to Red Bull's second-seat dilemma, the call is coming from inside the house.</p>

He was benched, missed time due to injury, and has more interceptions (13) than passing touchdowns (11).</p><p>However, both quarterbacks have shown the ability to be dual-threat weapons. Richardson has rushed for 10 touchdowns over two seasons, while Jones has 15 career rushing touchdowns. The latter rushed for a career-high seven touchdowns and 708 yards as a member of the New York Giants in 2022.</p><p>"I think he's a really good fit for what we wanna do and who he is as a person and who he can be as a player," Ballard said.</p><p>Richardson made 11 starts last season, going 6-5 with eight passing scores and 12 picks. Veteran pocket-passer <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/2945" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/2945">Joe Flacco</a> started the other six contests and held a 2-4 mark with 12 touchdowns and seven interceptions.</p><p>Jones was drafted sixth overall by the Giants in 2019. <p>Liam Lawson is out at Red Bull after two races.</p><p>The 23-year-old will be replaced by Racing Bulls driver Yuki Tsunoda for the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix, Red Bull announced Thursday. Team principal Christian Horner called the move a "sporting decision."</p><p>"It has been difficult to see Liam struggle with the RB21 at the first two races and, as a result, we have collectively taken the decision to make an early switch," Horner said in a statement. "We came into the 2025 season with two ambitions, to retain the World Drivers' Championship and to reclaim the World Constructors' title, and this is a purely sporting decision."</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Lawson will return to Racing Bulls, Red Bull's junior team, for which he made 11 career starts between 2023 and 2024.</p><p>"We have a duty of care to protect and develop Liam and together, we see that after such a difficult start, it makes sense to act quickly so Liam can gain experience, as he continues his F1 career with Visa Cash App Racing Bulls, an environment and a team he knows very well," Horner added.</p><p>Lawson was promoted to Red Bull over the more experienced Tsunoda during the winter break, but he has struggled mightily to adjust to his new team.</p><p>The Kiwi driver has yet to score points, retiring in the Australian Grand Prix and finishing 12th in the Chinese GP race. He qualified 18th in Australia while placing 20th in both sprint and grand prix qualifying in China.</p><p>Lawson's quick promotion and demotion is the latest chapter in the tale of Red Bull's infamous second seat. Sergio Perez was the team's second driver from 2021-24 but was dropped at the end of last season after scoring 152 points compared to teammate Max Verstappen's 437. The Mexican pilot's struggles cost Red Bull a third straight constructors' championship.</p><p>Red Bull is third in the 2025 constructors' standings with 36 points, all of which Verstappen collected. The Milton Keynes squad trails Mercedes (57 points) and McLaren (78 points).</p><p>Tsunoda will make his Red Bull debut at his home grand prix in Japan. The 24-year-old began his Formula 1 career with what was then called AlphaTauri in 2021. His performance last season was his best yet as he finished 12th in the championship with 30 points.</p>

The 36-year-old visited Cleveland in mid-March.</p><h3>Matthew Judon ➡️ Bengals</h3><p>The Bengals may or may not have the reigning league leader in sacks, Trey Hendrickson, in the fold. The Chiefs could use a pass-rusher to help George Karlaftis on the outside. Kansas City has struggled to get consistent pressure from edge rushers in recent years.</p><h3>Za'Darius Smith ➡️ Commanders</h3><p>The Commanders lost Dante Fowler to the Cowboys in free agency after he led the team in sacks last season. Smith can provide a veteran presence up front, and he's still got a lot left in the tank, even at 32 years old. A completely revamped safety room with Blackmon, who has been a five-year starter, and Tre'von Moehrig is exciting to think about.</p><h3>Asante Samuel Jr. ➡️ Seahawks</h3><p>Samuel missed most of the last season with a shoulder injury, but he's started 47 games as an outside cornerback since entering the league as a second-round pick in 2021. The Seahawks have a hole at cornerback across Tariq Woolen, and Samuel would be a great addition to Mike Macdonald's secondary.</p>
