What the odds say: Does Prescott have a chance to win MVP?
Dak Prescott has emerged as an MVP candidate following the Cowboys' victory over the Chiefs on Thanksgiving Day.
The Dallas quarterback was an afterthought in the betting market early last week, sitting at +20000 (bet $1 to win $200), but his odds have shortened to +1200 on theScore Bet (7.7% implied probability) after beating Patrick Mahomes with all of America watching.
Prescott leads the league in adjusted total quarterback rating (QBR), sits second in passing yards, is tied for second for passing touchdowns, and trails only Mahomes in expected points added (EPA).
The Cowboys have won three straight following their bye, with marquee victories over the Eagles and Chiefs bolstering Prescott's resume. Dallas sits at 6-5-1 in the heat of the NFC wild-card race, but if the team can continue to rattle off wins, including another in a prime-time game against the Lions on Thursday, Prescott's case becomes even stronger.
However, his competition remains formidable. Drake Maye is the current betting favorite at -125, having led the Patriots to an AFC-best 11-2 record. Maye tops the NFL in passing yards, is fourth in passing touchdowns, and is top three in both QBR and EPA. A lot would have to go wrong for him to fall out of the MVP race at this point in the year.
Matthew Stafford is the other quarterback in contention. The Rams' leader was the favorite before the team dropped a game on the road to the Panthers. Stafford is +130 (43.5% implied probability), so it's likely either he or Maye will win the award, but Prescott's chances are far from zero.

Reigning MVP Josh Allen was the preseason favorite to repeat, but he's slipped to +2500 as the Bills struggle to repeat last year's regular-season success.
Mahomes and Lamar Jackson rounded out the top three favorites before the season started, but they're now way off the pace at +10000 and +25000, respectively.
