Joe Burrow says the 2026 Cincinnati Bengals remind him a lot of the early version of the 2021 team that ultimately conquered the AFC and reached the Super Bowl.
Although the offense has delivered during the Bengals' 2-0 start this year, Burrow pointed to Cincinnati's defensive improvements as key to the club's success.
"It feels like early on in 2021," Burrow said after the Bengals' win over the Houston Texans on Sunday, according to Cole McIntire of Fox 19. "We got a really good defense. (You) try to stay in front of the sticks, not turn the ball over, kick field goals. You put points on the board, we're going to win with our defense."
Cincinnati's defense is off to a stellar start this season, not allowing the Texans to find the end zone Sunday and holding them to just six points. In Week 1, the Bengals forced four turnovers in a 33-27 triumph over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The defense has largely benefited from offseason additions like Dexter Lawrence and Jonathan Allen, who has a team-leading two sacks. Former Seattle Seahawks edge rusher Boye Mafe has also recorded a sack, forced fumble, and fumble recovery.
On offense, Burrow has thrown three touchdowns to one interception, while receiver Tee Higgins has recorded a team-high 154 yards and Ja'Marr Chase leads the squad with two touchdowns.
The Bengals could get off to their first 3-0 start since 2015 if they can beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 3.
