After some shaky performances at the end of the regular season, Sam Darnold and Seattle's offense have rolled through the playoffs. The 28-year-old quarterback has shut down any questions about his oblique injury, and he's coming off arguably the best game of his career.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The Seahawks' most significant advantage is their pass rush versus the Patriots' offensive line. Their unit can get into the backfield without sending extra bodies; Seattle ranked fourth in pressure rate when not blitzing this season. New England, on the other hand, ranked 29th in pressure rate allowed when teams rushed four or fewer players. Drake Maye has looked uncomfortable in the pocket of late, and his pressure-to-sack rate through three postseason games is an absurd 45.5%. To put that into perspective, Geno Smith had the highest rate of any quarterback in the regular season at 25.9%. The Patriots' offensive line hasn't played well lately, and Mike Macdonald is the best in the business at exposing poor play up front.</p><p>As evidenced by past Super Bowls, teams that can create pressure with only four rushers often hoist the Lombardi Trophy. For starters, we know the underdog trend: They've covered five straight Super Bowls and 17 of the last 24. Furthermore, favorites of at least 4.5 points are 1-10 against the spread since 2000. Underdogs deserve consideration in every Super Bowl - but especially this one. I strongly believe the Seahawks aren't a field goal better than the Patriots at a neutral site.</p><p>While Deeg makes a great point that Maye has struggled in the postseason against strong fronts, which Seattle owns, two weeks of rest and preparation should help him deliver on the biggest stage. With that said, this pick is more about New England's defense, which has limited opponents all season. For those claiming the Patriots faced an easy path to the Super Bowl, let's start by acknowledging that they had the NFL's fourth-best scoring defense during the regular season. They've been a consistently dominant group all year. As for their playoff opponents, isn't Justin Herbert universally recognized as a top-10 quarterback, and wasn't C.J. Stroud in that conversation two seasons ago? Don't move the goalposts just because New England's defense stifled them and their offensive lines.</p><p>While Darnold's incredible NFC championship performance silenced critics, he hasn't earned complete trust in huge games. He's prone to turnovers, which the Patriots' defense will capitalize on. Instead, I'll create a small parlay based on how I predict the game will unfold.</p><p>I think the Seahawks can win by a touchdown, but I can also see the Patriots pulling off the upset. What I don't envision is a blowout, as I believe the contest will be decided in the fourth quarter.</p><p>Both teams rely heavily on their defenses to win games, and both quarterbacks are playing in their first Super Bowl. This could easily turn into a defensive struggle, especially in the first half as both sides battle through nerves and feel out each other's game plan.</p><p>Moving the game total from 45.5 to 49.5 covers me if Seattle wins 28-21. </h3><p>Cat's out of the bag: I'm not backing Scheffler at +240, but I will respect his presence in the field by also backing my outright selections in the market without Scheffler. Therefore, if Gotterup comes second to Scheffler, the bet at +3000 wins.</p><p>I was on Gotterup last week, and he showed nothing to suggest I shouldn't trust him again at juicy +4000 odds. He ranked fifth in strokes gained: tee to green in three rounds at Torrey Pines South Course and second in strokes gained: off the tee. He's one of three players to start the season with three straight top-20 results. Coody dominated off the tee last week, gaining 4.4 strokes with his driver. He was eighth in strokes gained: tee to green last week at Torrey Pines but came T18 because he lost nearly two strokes putting. </h3><p>These odds don't add up: Koepka is +3000 to win the tournament but has the same odds to finish top 20 as players like Garrick Higgo and Keith Mitchell, who are +10000 and +9000 in the outright market, respectively. Value aside, I still like Koepka's chances of cracking the top 20 at a tournament he's won twice in his career. That says a lot, since he has only four regular PGA TOUR victories.</p><p>Koepka hit the ball well in his return to the PGA TOUR, gaining over six strokes tee to green, but lost more than seven with his putter. You'd have to imagine his putter rebounds with more reps. While Finau's results in Phoenix are spotty, he does have a runner-up showing from 2020 and came T14 last year. With that said, we've had two extra frames in the past 10 years (2017 and 2024), so these odds - which suggest overtime should happen once every 10 Super Bowls - feel incorrect.</p><h3>

The odds imply there's roughly a 22% chance the Seahawks win and Darnold doesn't earn the honor, and that feels too high.</p><p>Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who is next on the oddsboard for the Seahawks, is unlikely to have an explosive game against Christian Gonzalez, one of the best shutdown corners in the league. Smith-Njigba has the skills to beat Gonzalez - I just don't see the Seattle wideout producing an MVP-worthy performance.</p><p>Kenneth Walker III is a real threat, though. Without Zach Charbonnet, Walker should get the majority of the goal-line work and could break off a couple of long runs to rack up yards. For starters, he's Seattle's kickoff and punt returner, allowing him to make big plays throughout the contest. He's played 50% of the offensive snaps in the postseason, and he hauled in a 51-yard reception in the conference title game. Koepka, the only one to take the PGA TOUR up on its offer, is throwing himself straight into the competitive fire.</p><p>While all eyes will be on Koepka, the field is as strong as usual for one of the marquee events of the West Coast swing. Xander Schauffele and Cameron Young will make their season debuts, and Patrick Cantlay, J.J. He overpowered Waialae Country Club, and the distance he generates off the tee will give him a huge advantage at Torrey Pines.</p><p>Gotterup has two victories in his last nine starts. During his first start in seven months, he finished T15 at the Nedbank Golf Challenge on the DP World Tour. He then placed T18 last week at The American Express, where he gained 4.6 strokes tee to green on his two rounds at PGA West's Stadium Course.</p><p>The 29-year-old has played the Farmers Insurance Open five times in his career, finishing as the runner-up in 2022 to go along with two other top-15 showings. Even if he's not 100%, he remains one of the best ball-strikers in the field. Von Miller was the most recent MVP on the defensive side of the ball, and when the Seahawks last won the Super Bowl in 2014, linebacker Malcolm Smith took home the MVP hardware. The Steelers will be without DK Metcalf, who exploded for 148 yards in their first meeting, but they're getting T.J. Watt back to bolster their defense.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The spread from two weeks ago was clearly incorrect - these two teams are much closer than the betting market believed. However, this 3.5-point spread suggests the Ravens would be roughly 6.5-point favorites (potentially more) this week if this game were in Baltimore. When presented that way, the Steelers become the clear side to back.</p><p>Lamar Jackson will return for the Ravens after missing last week with a back injury. There's a good chance he's far from 100% and is pushing himself to play in a must-win game. Jackson hasn't been himself for most of the season and is on pace to record his lowest rushing total by a substantial margin (he's 355 yards short of his career low).</p><p>Missing Metcalf is tough for the Steelers, who only scored six points on the road in Cleveland last week. But the Browns' defense is a different beast at home, and the Ravens' defense has been underwhelming all season.</p><p>Backing the Steelers as a home underdog has historically been a wise bet. Since Mike Tomlin took over in 2007, the Steelers are 22-9-3 (71% cover rate) when getting points in Pittsburgh.</p><p>I expect this game to be a tight defensive AFC North battle decided by one of the final few possessions.
