Anthony Sweeney, a five-star edge rusher in the 2027 class, has committed to Texas Tech, he told On3's Hayes Fawcett.

The Maryland native is the 18th-ranked prospect on the ESPN 300 and the third-highest-ranked recruit at his position. He chose the Red Raiders over LSU and South Carolina.

Sweeney, who's listed at 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds, is set to enter his senior season at Saint Frances Academy in Baltimore.

The pass-rusher visited Texas Tech earlier in April. He told Rivals' Chad Simmons that head coach Joey McGuire is a primary reason for his decision to play in Lubbock.

"He's a great coach - a players' coach," Sweeney said. "He's got great energy and sets his players up for success. You see what he has done with the program."

Sweeney added, "He's building something big. They're already competing, and I believe they can get to the top. They were in the playoffs last year, and he has made Texas Tech into a national contender."

Texas Tech's 2027 class also includes defensive tackle Jalen Brewster, the top recruit on the ESPN 300.
