Jack Swarbrick will step down as Notre Dame's athletic director in 2024, school president Rev. John Jenkins announced Thursday.

NBC Sports chairman Peter Bevacqua will replace Swarbrick. He'll join Notre Dame on July 1 as Swarbrick's special assistant until the outgoing director officially leaves.

"It speaks volumes about Notre Dame and Father Jenkins' leadership that we can implement such a well-conceived succession plan and attract someone of Pete's talent and experience," Swarbrick said.

Swarbrick became Notre Dame's athletic director in 2008 and established himself as one of the most prominent figures in college sports. The Fighting Irish have won nine team national championships during his tenure.

Bevacqua, a Notre Dame alum, has been with NBC since 2018 after serving as CEO of PGA of America for six years.

"This is an unbelievable honor for me and a dream come true," Bevacqua said. "With the exception of my family, nothing means more to me than the University of Notre Dame."
