An Indiana judge has granted ex-Purdue big man Trey Kaufman-Renn a temporary restraining order against the NCAA, which will allow him to pursue a sixth season of college hoops, according to Nathan Baird of The Indianapolis Star.

The Minnesota Timberwolves selected Kaufman-Renn with the 59th overall pick in this year's draft. The 6-foot-9 forward redshirted his freshman year of college before playing for the Boilermakers over the last four seasons.

The judge's ruling prohibits the NCAA from denying Kaufman-Renn eligibility because of his stint at Purdue and his prior status with the T-Wolves, adds Baird.

The governing body must now also allow schools to recruit Kaufman-Renn for their basketball programs.

Kaufman-Renn later announced on social media that he won't be rejoining Purdue.

A separate hearing still needs to be scheduled on Kaufman-Renn's motion for a preliminary injunction, which will definitively decide whether he'll be permitted to suit up for the upcoming collegiate campaign.

As a result of the temporary restraining order, Kaufman-Renn can't sign a contract or receive a salary from a professional basketball club.

The Indiana native never signed a contract with the T-Wolves, who are supporting his efforts to return to college, according to The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski.

Kaufman-Renn averaged 14.2 points, 8.3 boards, and 2.5 assists across 37 appearances last season. He was an All-Big Ten first-team selection in 2024-25.
