Los Angeles Dodgers star closer Edwin Díaz isn't a lock to make the team's postseason roster, manager Dave Roberts said Monday, according to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic.
Díaz, who's currently on a rehab assignment in Triple-A, allowed five runs with three walks and hit a batter while recording just two outs Sunday. He's expected to make one more outing Wednesday before the Dodgers decide whether to move forward with the slumping right-hander.
"He needs to pitch better," Roberts said. "I think the world of him. The baseball card looks great. But it's like, where we're at, there's got to be something for us to be able to hang our hat on."
Díaz has been on the injured list since mid-August. The 32-year-old missed three months earlier in the season due to arthroscopic elbow surgery. He then struggled upon his return to the majors before being sidelined again with a neck issue.
"We have to go with our best pitchers as far as performance, talent, all that stuff," Roberts added. "So, my bet is that he will be (on the roster). But again, there's got to be some kind of evidence or something for us, again, to sort of bet on."
Díaz owns an 11.85 ERA with 2.56 WHIP and 12.5 K/9 over 16 appearances in 2026. He signed a three-year, $69-million deal to join the two-time defending champions last offseason.
