The New York Yankees were among a number of teams to scout right-hander Clay Holmes during his latest rehab appearance Tuesday, sources told The Athletic's Will Sammon, Ken Rosenthal, and Katie Woo.
The 33-year-old, who is working his way back from a fractured fibula, threw four scoreless innings during a 59-pitch outing for Single-A St. Lucie. He reportedly touched 94 mph with his fastball and looked "big-league ready."
Holmes played four seasons with the Yankees (2021-24), operating as the team's closer during three of those campaigns. He saved 74 games for the Bronx Bombers before signing with the New York Mets in December 2024 and transitioning into a starter.
The sinker specialist owns a 16-12 record with a 3.26 ERA and 3.89 FIP as a starter for the Mets. He's earning $13 million this season and has a $12-million player option tied to his contract for 2027.
Holmes also had scouts from the Arizona Diamondbacks, Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, Philadelphia Phillies, Tampa Bay Rays, and Texas Rangers in attendance Tuesday.
