Kansas City Royals pitcher Cole Ragans will undergo elbow surgery Wednesday, according to MLB.com's Anne Rogers.

The full extent of Ragans' injury is still unclear, and doctors will determine his recovery timeline after they perform the procedure, adds Rogers.

Ragans has been on the 15-day injured list since May and suffered a setback during his rehab stint earlier in June. He left a start on May 6 after just three innings and was diagnosed with valgus extension overload.

The 28-year-old has thrown just 35 1/3 innings this season while posting a 4.84 ERA with 45 strikeouts. Ragans has battled multiple injuries throughout his career, with groin and shoulder issues limiting him to just 13 starts last campaign. In 2024, he earned an All-Star nod and finished fourth in the AL Cy Young race.

Kansas City's 4.87 ERA ranks 28th across the majors. The Royals sit last in the AL Central with a 34-49 record heading into Saturday's contest against the Chicago White Sox.
