The New York Mets appear to have a managerial candidate ready and waiting.

Albert Pujols recently told friends he'd like to take over as Mets manager if the team dismissed Carlos Mendoza, a source told SNY's John Harper.

Pujols has never managed in the majors but has experience managing in the Caribbean Series and Dominican winter league. The 46-year-old also managed the Dominican Republic at the last World Baseball Classic and has a strong relationship with Mets outfielder Juan Soto.

The Mets fired Mendoza and named Andy Green as interim manager Friday, but they've only committed to Green until the end of the 2026 season.

Pujols, a three-time MVP and future Hall of Famer, spent 22 years playing in MLB. He hit 703 home runs and finished his career with a .296/.374/.544 slash line in 3,080 career games.
