The Texas Rangers placed shortstop Corey Seager on the 10-day injured list due to lower back inflammation, the team announced Monday.
Seager's stint on the injured list will be retroactive to May 15. He missed the last two games with back spasms and underwent an MRI on Sunday.
Texas recalled utility player Michael Helman from the minors in a corresponding move.
Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young said Monday that he anticipates the time off will give Seager a "chance to reset mentally," according to Shawn McFarland of the Dallas Morning News. He added that he believes Seager could be back by the start of the next homestand on May 25 against the Houston Astros.
The five-time All-Star heads to the injured list in the midst of a 0-for-27 slump that began after his last hit on May 6.
Seager has seven home runs and 20 RBIs this season but is batting just .179 and carries an OPS of .638.
