Right-hander Spencer Turnbull will have Tommy John surgery, the Detroit Tigers announced Tuesday, according to Chris McCosky of the Detroit News.
The recovery time from the procedure is usually 12-to-15 months for pitchers.
Turnbull became the fifth hurler to throw a no-hitter this season after accomplishing the feat in mid-May against the Seattle Mariners.
The 28-year-old posted a 2.88 ERA with 0.98 WHIP over nine starts (50 innings) for the Tigers this season.
