Votto apologizes to young fan after early ejection, epic tirade
Votto seemed to take issue with an appealed check swing during his at-bat. After being rung up, Votto and manager David Bell got into a heated exchange with home plate umpire Ryan Additon. Both Votto and Bell were ejected and needed to be restrained.
A Padres fan was also removed from the ballpark during the incident, according to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune.
As a result of the ejection, one fan attending their first MLB game was unable to watch Votto, their favorite player.
However, Votto sent a signed baseball to the young fan and apologized for not playing the entire game.
While some people cared deeply about Votto's ejection, one person who apparently didn't was Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr., who was caught lounging on the field during the argument.
