Report: Espada emerges as favorite for Giants' managerial job
The San Francisco Giants are zeroing in on Joe Espada to be the club's next manager, Sarah Langs of MLB.com reports.
San Franciso was left impressed after its second interview with the Houston Astros bench coach Wednesday, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, who adds that while no decision is imminent, one could come soon.
The Giants are widely rumored to be deciding between Espada, former Philadelphia Phillies manager Gabe Kapler, and Tampa Bay Rays bench coach Matt Quatraro for the vacant position.
Espada reportedly was a finalist for the Chicago Cubs' managerial opening in October, but the 44-year-old ultimately lost out to former major-league catcher David Ross.
The Giants have been looking for a new skipper since Bruce Bochy retired at the end of the 2019 campaign.
San Francisco and the Pittsburgh Pirates are the only major-league clubs currently searching for a new manager.
