A return to Wisconsin reportedly could be in Will Smith's future.

The Milwaukee Brewers are engaged in trade discussions with the San Francisco Giants about the left-handed closer, sources told Robert Murray of The Athletic.

Smith pitched for Milwaukee from 2014 to midway through the 2016 season, when he was dealt to San Francisco.

The teams are apparently scouting each other, as members of the Giants organization were recently in Cincinnati to watch the Brewers play.

San Francisco has an interest in minor-league shortstop Mauricio Dubon - a prospect Milwaukee could be willing to part with, as Keston Hiura and Orlando Arcia look to have the middle of the infield locked up for years to come, Murray adds.

Dubon, 24, has an .829 OPS and 14 home runs in 84 games with Triple-A San Antonio this season.

The Brewers reportedly have plenty of competition for the 30-year-old's services as the St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Dodgers, Atlanta Braves, and Texas Rangers are also interested.

Smith is coming off his first All-Star selection thanks to a stellar season, during which he's gone 23-for-24 in save opportunities while posting a 2.17 ERA with a career-best 13 K/9 rate.
