The Los Angeles Angels declined manager Kurt Suzuki's option for 2027, the club announced Wednesday.
Instead, the Angels offered Suzuki a role as a special assistant.
Los Angeles will also be looking for a new coaching staff for next season.
Suzuki's first and only campaign as the club's skipper was memorable for the wrong reasons, as the Angels recorded their first 100-loss season in franchise history.
"Kurt has earned tremendous respect in our clubhouse, and I've seen firsthand how much he cares about our players," interim general manager John Mozeliak said in a statement. "I do not believe our record this year was a true reflection of his abilities as a manager."
Mozeliak also said he doesn't intend to lead the Angels' baseball operations department next season and that a search for a new general manager is underway, according to Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register. The new GM will hire the team's next manager, Mozeliak added.
The Angels currently own MLB's longest active playoff drought at 12 years and haven't posted a winning season since 2015.
Longtime owner Arte Moreno sold the Angels to Stan Kroenke in September. The sale is expected to be finalized in the first quarter of 2027, pending MLB approval.
