The Washington Capitals signed forward Justin Sourdif to an eight-year contract extension worth $6.35 million per season, the team announced.
The 24-year-old is coming off a rookie season in which he notched 35 points in 78 games. Sourdif's new deal goes into effect for the 2027-28 campaign.
"Justin is a good young forward who has continued to develop steadily throughout his career," general manager Chris Patrick said in a statement. "He is versatile and demonstrated his ability to play an important forward role for our team whenever the opportunity arose last season.
"We are thrilled to sign him to a long-term contract and look forward to seeing him continue to elevate his game alongside our veteran core and our young group of players. We believe he has a bright future ahead of him and are confident that he will continue to make valuable contributions to our organization in the coming years."
Sourdif was a third-round draft selection of the Florida Panthers in 2020. He only played four games with the club and then spent time in the AHL during the three seasons prior to him breaking through with the Capitals last year.
The Capitals also inked forward Ryan Leonard to an eight-year extension Tuesday. Sept. 15 marked the final day that NHL teams can sign players for eight years before the league's new CBA kicks in and caps contracts at seven years.
Washington now has six forwards signed through 2031. The Capitals missed the playoffs in 2025-26 but had an active offseason that included adding Alex Tuch, Jordan Kyrou, and Boone Jenner to bolster their forward corps.
