The Winnipeg Jets signed goaltender Stuart Skinner to a two-year contract with an average annual value of $3.75 million, the team announced Wednesday.

Last season, Skinner posted an .888 save percentage in 50 games split between the Edmonton Oilers and Pittsburgh Penguins.

Skinner was traded to the Penguins midseason after spending parts of six years in Edmonton. He owns a lifetime .902 save percentage.

The 27-year-old could potentially be the No. 1 goalie for Winnipeg if the Jets opt to trade Connor Hellebuyck. The three-time Vezina Trophy winner is rumored to be available, with the Carolina Hurricanes among the teams with reported interest.

Skinner could also serve as Winnipeg's No. 2 goalie if Hellebuyck stays. Eric Comrie, Hellebuyck's backup for the last two seasons, is a free agent.
