Oilers, Knoblauch agree to 3-year extension
The Edmonton Oilers have agreed to a three-year extension with head coach Kris Knoblauch, keeping him behind the bench through the 2028-29 season, the team announced Friday.
Knoblauch was set to enter this season with one year left on his contract. He took over the position after Edmonton fired Jay Woodcroft 13 games into the 2023-2024 campaign.
Knoblauch has posted a 94-47-10 record in 151 games as the Oilers' head coach. The 47-year-old led the team to back-to-back Stanley Cup Final appearances, losing both times to the Florida Panthers. Edmonton is 29-19 in the playoffs under Knoblauch, the first coach since Scotty Bowman to lead his team to the Stanley Cup Final in each of his first two seasons.
Before earning his first NHL head coaching job, Knoblauch coached in the Western Hockey League, Ontario Hockey League, and American Hockey League.
