Jonathan Toews' comeback plans are focused on the 2025-26 season rather than the remainder of the current campaign, TSN's Pierre LeBrun reports.

Toews, who hasn't played since the 2022-23 season, stated in December that he hopes to return to the NHL at some point after stepping away from the sport for health reasons. Numerous teams reportedly expressed interest in the three-time Stanley Cup champion.

Winnipeg Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff said he hopes his club would be in the mix for Toews' services if he finds his way back to the NHL, and LeBrun reports there is mutual interest.

Toews is a Winnipeg native.

The 36-year-old missed the entire 2021-22 season and two months of the following campaign while dealing with chronic inflammatory response syndrome and symptoms of long COVID.

Toews was productive when available in his most recent season, registering 31 points in 53 games. He accrued 883 points over 15 seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks, winning a Selke Trophy and Conn Smythe along the way.
