San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said rookie receiver De'Zhaun Stribling will miss "close to" 10 weeks after undergoing ankle surgery Wednesday, according to ESPN's Nick Wagoner.
Shanahan also revealed that tight end Jake Tonges will miss the rest of the season after his MCL injury required surgery. San Francisco placed Tonges on injured reserve and elevated receiver KhaDarel Hodge to the active roster.
Stribling exited with a noncontact injury in the second quarter of the Niners' season-opening win over the Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne, Australia.
The Ole Miss product was initially expected to miss at least a month of action due to a deltoid ligament sprain in his left ankle, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
After opting for surgery, the rookie is expected to return to the lineup between late November and early December, according to Rapoport.
The Niners selected Stribling 33rd overall with their first pick in the 2026 draft. He was expected to earn a big role in the offense alongside veterans Mike Evans and Deebo Samuel.
