Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald ruled out quarterback Sam Darnold for Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals, according to ESPN's Brady Henderson.
Macdonald added that he doesn't expect the Seahawks to place Darnold on injured reserve as he recovers from a glute injury.
The 29-year-old sustained the injury on Seattle's first offensive possession against the New England Patriots last week. He was later ruled out of the game with what the team initially described as a hip injury.
The Seahawks play the Washington Commanders on Sept. 27, then host the Los Angeles Chargers on Oct. 4 and the San Francisco 49ers on Oct. 11.
Macdonald confirmed that Drew Lock is in line to start Sunday after he filled in for Darnold in the opener. He'll make his first start since the 2024 season.
Macdonald also said he doesn't expect the Seahawks to add another quarterback while Darnold is sidelined. They currently have Jalen Milroe and Lock on the active roster.
