The Detroit Lions are signing running back Jahmyr Gibbs to a three-year extension worth up to $75.75 million, his agent confirmed Thursday to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The new deal makes Gibbs the NFL's highest-paid running back ahead of Bijan Robinson, who inked a three-year contract worth up to $75 million earlier this week.
Gibbs' deal is worth $67.5 million before the incentives that could bump it to $75.75 million and contains $51.5 million in guaranteed money.
The agreement continues a very lucrative week for running backs. In addition to Robinson's mammoth deal with the Atlanta Falcons, the Indianapolis Colts signed Jonathan Taylor to a two-year, $44-million extension Thursday.
Philadelphia Eagles rusher Saquon Barkley was the only running back averaging over $20 million per year prior to the 2026 offseason, but Gibbs, Robinson, and Taylor have now surpassed him.
The Lions running back limited his participation at training camp while negotiating a new deal.
Gibbs has become one of the most electric backs in the league since being selected in the first round of the 2023 draft by the Lions. He's earned Pro Bowl invites in each of his three seasons. He's rushed for 3,580 yards and 39 touchdowns in his NFL career so far while totalling 5,029 yards from scrimmage and 49 scores.
The 24-year-old is one of three players to exceed 5,000 scrimmage yards since 2023, joining Robinson (5,648) and Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry (5,240).
