Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Vita Vea has requested a trade, his agent told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.
Vea's trade request comes after unsuccessful contract extension negotiations, as he enters the final year of his deal. He's scheduled to earn $18-million this season.
The defensive tackle market was reset this offseason by Tennessee Titans star Jeffery Simmons, who inked a three-year, $105.8-million extension. The Cincinnati Bengals also gave Dexter Lawrence a one-year, $28-million extension after acquiring him from the New York Giants in April.
Vea didn't participate in Tampa Bay's spring program. He's expected to be with the team for training camp, although his participation remains uncertain, Garafolo added.
The 31-year-old has made two Pro-Bowl appearances in his eight-year career and helped the Buccaneers win Super Bowl LV.
The 6-foot-4, 347-pounder recorded 4.5 sacks, seven tackles for loss, and 13 quarterback hits in 2025. He posted a career-high seven sacks in 2024.
Tampa Bay has boasted a top-five rush defense in six of the last seven seasons, largely due to Vea's presence in the middle at nose tackle.
The Buccaneers drafted Vea 12th overall in 2018.
