Los Angeles Chargers general manager Joe Hortiz said the team has talked to free-agent wide receiver Keenan Allen's agent and it could still re-sign him for the 2026 season.

"Right now, we're in a spot where we're looking at the roster and saying we're letting these young guys get a chance, but I've had some communication with Keenan's representation," Hortiz said on "Up & Adams."

"We talk. Right now, our guys that we have here, we're letting them grow and develop, but nothing but love for Keenan. That door is not closed."

Allen remains on the open market after returning to Los Angeles last season following a one-year stint with the Chicago Bears. He wasn't signed until August last year when the Chargers brought the veteran back on a one-year, $8.5-million deal.

The 34-year-old led the Chargers in targets with 122 while posting 81 receptions for 777 yards and four touchdowns. However, after posting 435 yards and four scores through the first seven games, Allen failed to eclipse 55 yards in a contest the rest of the year. His 630 offensive snaps in 2025 were the third-most among Chargers wideouts behind Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston.

Los Angeles didn't sign any free-agent wide receivers this offseason, but it has spent draft capital on the position in recent years. They used a second-round pick on Tre' Harris last year, but the Ole Miss product recorded just 34 catches for 324 yards as a rookie.

Hortiz and the Chargers also took a swing on Mississippi State wide receiver Brenen Thompson in the fourth round this year. The general manager is excited about what Thompson can bring to the offense after his 4.26 40-yard dash time led all wide receivers at the 2026 combine.

"His speed, it's real," Hortiz said of Thompson. "You saw it on film when you watched Mississippi State. He certainly ran the fast time at the combine, but some guys run fast and you put the film on, you don't see it. It's significant, and we think he's going to be an impact player."

Allen, who's made six Pro Bowls during his 13-year career, ranks fifth among all active wideouts in receiving yards with 12,051.
