49ers' Purdy, Pearsall ruled out vs. Bucs
The San Francisco 49ers will be without quarterback Brock Purdy and wide receiver Ricky Pearsall against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday for a second consecutive game, the team announced Friday.
Purdy and Pearsall both missed the 49ers' Week 5 win over the Los Angeles Rams. The signal-caller reaggravated a turf toe injury and is reportedly considered week-to-week. Meanwhile, Pearsall has been dealing with a knee ailment.
This leaves quarterback Mac Jones, who is 3-0 as a starter this season, in line for another start under center. However, Jones is also questionable on the injury report due to knee and oblique issues. If Jones can't suit up, Adrian Martinez would be expected to be the primary signal-caller.
Jones has thrown for 905 yards, six touchdowns, and one interception for the 49ers this year.
Pearsall still leads all 49ers' wide receivers with 327 yards despite missing last week's game. Only running back Christian McCaffrey has more receiving yards (387) this year.
The 49ers are off to a 4-1 start and lead the NFC West despite having to overcome a rash of injuries. They are travelling to take on a Buccaneers team that is also 4-1.
