Report: Greenlaw, Hufanga leave 49ers to join Broncos
The Denver Broncos are adding a pair of former San Francisco 49ers starters.
Denver agreed to a three-year contract worth up to $45 million with safety Talanoa Hufanga, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The deal reportedly includes $20 million guaranteed at signing.
The Broncos then agreed to give veteran linebacker Dre Greenlaw a three-year, $35-million deal, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Hufanga spent his first four NFL seasons with the 49ers and earned an All-Pro nod in 2022 after amassing 97 tackles, nine pass breakups, four interceptions, and two sacks. He hasn't replicated that success in recent years, as injuries limited him to only 17 appearances over the last two seasons combined. The 26-year-old - who stands out as a box safety - was limited to 38 tackles and zero interceptions in seven games in 2024.
Injuries have also been an issue for Greenlaw, who played only two games in 2024 after sustaining an Achilles injury during Super Bowl LVIII. The 27-year-old was a key member of San Francisco's defense in 2022 and '23, averaging 124 tackles (eight for loss), five pass breakups, one interception, and one forced fumble across those seasons.
In Denver, Hufanga and Greenlaw will join one of the NFL's best defenses. The Broncos' defensive unit, which led the league in sacks in 2024, is headlined by star cornerback and reigning Defensive Player of the Year Pat Surtain II.
