Kamara appears to endorse Rizzi amid Saints' coaching search
Alvin Kamara seemingly wants the New Orleans Saints to make Darren Rizzi their full-time head coach in 2025.
The Saints running back, who led the team in total yards and touchdowns in 2024, shared a tweet Tuesday strongly hinting that he's supporting Rizzi as New Orleans continues its search for a new head coach.
Rizzi, who's been with the Saints since 2019, began last season as assistant head coach and special teams coordinator before taking over as interim head coach when Dennis Allen was fired in November.
The 54-year-old provided a spark on the sideline and helped the Saints win their first two games under his interim watch. However, New Orleans finished the campaign on a 1-5 run and missed the playoffs.
Rizzi has had a head coaching interview with the Saints but isn't considered a front-runner for the job at the moment.
New Orleans has been strongly linked to Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, who has a second interview with the New York Jets on Tuesday. Glenn also had an interview with New Orleans lined up, but the team rescheduled this week's in-person talks because of severe weather, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. The club also still plans to speak with New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka and Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver later this week.
The Saints are also expected to meet with former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy, according to Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football.
The Saints were 5-12 in 2024 and haven't made the playoffs since the 2020 season.
