Report: Bengals to bring Fournette in for workout
The Cincinnati Bengals are bringing in veteran running back Leonard Fournette for a workout, sources told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport.
Cincinnati is considering signing Fournette to its practice squad.
Fournette, 29, has been a free agent since the 2023 season. He played in two games for the Buffalo Bills last year but was released in January.
The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Fournette in the first round of the 2017 draft, and he spent the first three seasons of his career with the AFC South club. The LSU product then played with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the next three years (2020-22), helping the franchise claim its Super Bowl LV victory.
Fournette has rushed for 6,737 yards and accounted for 41 total touchdowns over seven NFL seasons.
The Bengals are interested in adding depth at running back after placing Zack Moss on injured reserve earlier this month due to a neck injury. They acquired Khalil Herbert from the Chicago Bears before the NFL trade deadline to bolster their ranks.
Sophomore tailback Chase Brown has emerged as the Bengals' top option in the backfield this season: He's rushed for 521 yards and five touchdowns while averaging 4.4 yards per carry. The Illinois product also has 30 receptions for 150 yards and two scores through 10 games.
Four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Xavien Howard also visited with the Bengals on Monday, sources told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. Howard returned home after the two sides couldn't agree on a contract, Garafolo added.
The Bengals reportedly agreed to terms with Gary Brightwell, who they'll add to their practice squad, and aren't signing Fournette, a source told Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz.
