Report: Cal in negotiations to hire Oregon DC Lupoi as head coach
Oregon defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi is in negotiations to become Cal's new head coach, sources told Bruce Feldman and Chris Vannini of The Athletic.
Cal has been looking for a new coach since firing Justin Wilcox on Nov. 23. The move took place after a blowout loss to rival Stanford. The Golden Bears capped their regular season with a 7-5 record following a 38-35 win over SMU on Saturday in Nick Rolovich's debut as the school's interim head coach.
If Cal and Lupoi reach an agreement, he'll become the latest Oregon assistant to leave Dan Lanning's coaching staff to become a head coach. Ducks offensive coordinator Will Stein agreed to become Kentucky's sideline boss Monday.
In 2022, Kenny Dillingham - Lanning's former OC - also left for the Arizona State job.
Oregon was once again one of the nation's most balanced teams in 2025, ranking in the top 10 for scoring on offense and defense. Lupoi's defensive unit allowed only 14.8 points per game this season, an improvement from 19.4 in '24.
