Utah State has hired New Mexico's Bronco Mendenhall to be its next head coach, the school announced Friday.

Mendenhall received a six-year deal, sources told Pete Thamel of ESPN.

Mendenhall returned to coaching this season with New Mexico following a two-year hiatus after stepping down from his post at Virginia in 2021. New Mexico went 5-7 in his lone year on the sidelines.

The 58-year-old had a 36-38 record over six years with Virginia. He previously also coached BYU, where he produced an impressive 99-43 mark from 2005-15.

Utah State was led by interim coach Nate Dreiling after it fired Blake Anderson in July for violating his contractual obligations. The Aggies have a 4-8 record under Dreiling.
