New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson is taking the blame for the team's offensive woes amid an 0-3 start to their title defense.
"Everything falls on my shoulders," Brunson said after Sunday's 111-102 loss to the Orlando Magic, according to ESPN's Vincent Goodwill. "I just got to be a better leader when it comes to that, when it comes to (making sure) our guys are ready to go in the right spots. There's a lot of other little things, but it's organization on my part."
Brunson is averaging a team-high 22.7 points per game, but all of his key efficiency metrics are down compared to last season.
| Season | FG% | 3P% | FT% |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2025-26 | 46.7 | 36.9 | 84.1 |
| 2026-27 | 39.1 | 26.7 | 70.0 |
As a team, the Knicks rank last in the NBA in points per game and 29th in offensive rating. Last season they ranked 10th and fourth in those statistics, respectively, en route to an NBA championship.
"One thing I said throughout the entire training camp, and honestly to this day, is we're going to see who we are within the first couple weeks of the season," Brunson said. "So, we're hitting adversity now. How are we going to respond?"
The Knicks are back in action Tuesday against the undefeated Detroit Pistons.
