Draymond Green believes LeBron James' history with the Golden State Warriors was a decisive factor in James' choice to join the Philadelphia 76ers.
"I ultimately don't think Bron was ever able to get over the history, and I understand it. I get it," Green said Tuesday on his podcast "The Draymond Green Show."
Green added, "That's the hurdle to get over. We live in a day and age where everybody who doesn't have anything to say have something to say. And so, he's gonna get crushed if he comes to the Warriors, 'Ah man, you went to team up with Steph (Curry). Ah, you had to go to them.' And I think ultimately, that weighed in on the decision a lot. That played a big role in the Warriors not landing LeBron."
The James-led Cleveland Cavaliers squared off in four consecutive Finals against the Warriors from 2015-18. Golden State prevailed three times, but in 2016, the Cavaliers overcame a 3-1 series deficit to claim their first and only NBA title.
Green actively recruited James this summer during a golf trip together in Puerto Rico. The four-time All-Star even declined his $27.7-million player option for next season to give the Warriors more financial flexibility to sign James.
Curry played with James on Team USA at the Paris Olympics and acknowledged it'd be a "unique story in NBA history" if the league's all-time leading scorer joined him on the Warriors.
James eventually agreed to a two-year, $8-million contract with the 76ers, which he called his "last decision."
