Butler exits Game 2 loss to Rockets with pelvis injury

Golden State Warriors veteran Jimmy Butler exited Wednesday's 109-94 Game 2 loss to the Houston Rockets due to a pelvis contusion.

Butler sustained the injury in the first quarter after colliding with Rockets forward Amen Thompson, who tripped while the Warriors forward attempted to secure a rebound.

The Warriors announced Butler will undergo an MRI on Thursday, according to ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk.

Head coach Steve Kerr addressed the possibility of Butler missing Game 3.

"If Jimmy's out we have to rethink everything," Kerr said postgame. "Rotations and who starts and best combinations and all that stuff."

Butler recorded three points and two rebounds in eight minutes before leaving.

Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga stepped in for Butler after the injury. Kuminga had been benched for both the final regular-season game against the Los Angeles Clippers and the opening contest of the playoffs.

Golden State reserve guard Pat Spencer also saw early action Wednesday with Brandin Podziemski questionable to return due to an illness. Podziemski did eventually return to the game.

The Warriors and Rockets are now tied 1-1 in the first-round series. Butler recorded 25 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and five steals in Game 1.
