Thunder win franchise-record 15th straight with victory over Celtics
The Oklahoma City Thunder won their franchise-record 15th consecutive contest Sunday, beating the Boston Celtics 105-92.
The previous 14-game record was set during the 1995-96 season when the organization was still known as the Seattle SuperSonics. The Oklahoma record was 12 straight wins, achieved during the 2012-13 campaign.
The NBA Cup final loss to the Milwaukee Bucks doesn't count toward regular-season totals, which keeps Oklahoma's streak intact.
The Thunder trailed by 10 at the half, but their league-leading defense suffocated the Celtics in the final two quarters, limiting the reigning champs to 27 points after the break. This was Boston's lowest-scoring second half since 2012, according to SportsCenter.
Derrick White, Jaylen Brown, and Jrue Holiday were all held scoreless in the second half.
Oklahoma star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led all scorers with 33 points while adding 11 rebounds and six assists. He now leads the NBA with 20 games scoring at least 30 points.
Luguentz Dort knocked down three triples in the final minutes to put the game to bed. The Arizona State product finished the contest with 14 points.
Brown returned from a shoulder injury that kept him out the previous two matchups and scored 21 points in the Celtics' loss, while Jayson Tatum recorded a team-high 26 points.
The Thunder improve to 30-5 and can extend their winning streak to 16 on Wednesday when they face the Cleveland Cavaliers. Cleveland possesses the league's best record and is riding its own 10-game winning streak.
The Celtics dropped to 26-10 and are scheduled to play the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday.
