Clippers, Tucker mutually agree veteran will stay away from team

The Los Angeles Clippers and P.J. Tucker have mutually agreed that the forward "won't be with the team for the time being" as the two parties look to find a new situation for the 13-year veteran, the team announced Sunday, per ESPN's Bobby Marks.

Tucker, 39, was acquired from the Philadelphia 76ers at the beginning of last season as part of the James Harden deal. He only appeared in 31 games for the club, averaging just 1.7 points and 2.7 rebounds.

Tucker was fined $75,000 by the league in February after he publicly expressed a desire to be traded to another team.

The Texas product opted into the final year of his $11.5-million deal this summer.

L.A. is already short on wing depth due to the departure of All-Star Paul George. Star forward Kawhi Leonard's status for the beginning of the season is also unknown after he reportedly underwent offseason knee surgery.

The Clippers will open up their new Intuit Dome arena Oct. 23 against the Phoenix Suns.
