Michael Jordan's 1998 NBA Finals jersey up for auction
A jersey Michael Jordan wore during his "Last Dance" season is heading to auction.
Sotheby's will auction off Jordan's No. 23 Chicago Bulls jersey from Game 1 of the 1998 NBA Finals next month. The jersey could sell for $3 million to $5 million, which is the highest estimate ever for a piece of Jordan memorabilia, according to Zachary Kussin of the New York Post.
"Finals jerseys from Jordan ... they just don’t come around," Brahm Wachter, Sotheby's head of streetwear and modern collectibles, told The Post. "Red is really the color that people think about when they think about Michael Jordan, and this is the only red Finals jersey to ever appear at auction."
Jordan wore the jersey in an 88-85 loss to the Utah Jazz on June 3, 1998. The Bulls went on to win the series, capturing their third straight NBA title and sixth in eight seasons.
The jersey appeared on the June 15, 1998, cover of Sports Illustrated and was also featured in Episode X of ESPN's "The Last Dance" documentary series.
Bidding on the jersey opens Sept. 6.
