Detroit Pistons star Blake Griffin is considering season-ending left knee surgery and will visit a specialist in Los Angeles this week to determine the next course of action, league sources told Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes.
The former No. 1 overall pick underwent surgery on the same knee during the offseason, and he played through the injury in the latter stages of the 2018-19 campaign.
Griffin averaged a career-high 24.5 points last season to go along with 7.5 boards and 5.4 assists while leading Detroit to its second playoff appearance in the last 10 years.
However, the All-Star forward has been limited to just 18 games this season, averaging career lows in points (15.5 per game) and rebounds (4.7).
Griffin is currently in the third season of a five-year, $171-million max contract he originally signed with the Los Angeles Clippers, which includes a $38.9-million player option for the final season.
The Pistons (13-24) sit 11th in the East and 3 1/2 games back of the final playoff spot entering Monday's slate of games.
