Right-hander Clay Holmes and left-hander Matthew Boyd are turning down their player options with the Chicago Cubs to become free agents, reports ESPN's Jesse Rogers.

The 33-year-old Holmes had a $12-million option to return to the Cubs in 2027 after being acquired in a trade deadline deal with the New York Mets.

Holmes went 6-8 with a 3.29 ERA and 3.63 FIP in 101 1/3 innings between the Cubs and Mets last season.

Meanwhile, Boyd turned down his part of a $15-million mutual option with the Cubs after appearing in 22 games last season. The 35-year-old lefty posted a 3.91 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 126 2/3 innings.

Holmes and Boyd will join right-hander Michael King on the free-agent market. King reportedly also turned down his player option with the San Diego Padres on Thursday.
